Jen Wechsler is a Canadian born filmmaker who grew up in the LA area. She graduated with a Bachelor in Media Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design in 2004. During her studies she produced and directed several experimental and narrative short films as well as co-produced a student film showcase, The Vanguard Film Festival. After graduation she moved to San Francisco and then to Philadelphia in search of a career in the film industry where she worked as the Art Director on the independent feature film "The Book of Caleb" in 2006.
After moving to Portland in 2007 she produced the festival events, Filmmakers Open Screening Night and Halloween Horror Film Night while working at Living Room Theaters. Later she shifted her focus from programming to working in Oregon's production industry and began interning at Oregon Media Production Association in 2008. She was quickly promoted to the position of Membership Assistant and began freelancing as a Production Assistant on commercial, educational, and documentary productions.
She further immersed herself in Portland's film community and culture by volunteering for the Portland Oregon Woman's Film Festival, producing and directing short films for Opera Theater Oregon, and becoming a active member of Women In Film PDX. Working with Opera Theater Oregon since 2008 she was promoted to the staff position of Film Director and soon thereafter assumed a leadership role at the company. In 2011 she began a position at Deep Green Films while producing the event Opera vs. Cinema: The Black Pirate vs. The Flying Dutchman for Opera Theater Oregon.
In 2012 she was thrilled to accept the position of Managing Director of the Portland Oregon Women's Film Festival continues to work as a freelancer in the production industry.
