Katie Barkel is a filmmaker and educator based in Detroit, Michigan. Her short films have screened at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Media City Film Festival, Institüt für Alles Mögliche (Berlin), MoMA’s PopRally, among other festivals and venues across North America. She recently completed the film Writers Block at Rivera Court, about poetry written by incarcerated writers read by their family members and friends at the Detroit Institute of Arts. She is currently working on a documentary about an Elvis impersonator who is married to a Patsy Cline impersonator. Katie teaches video art and production at College for Creative Studies.
