Dr. Kevin Bott is the associate director of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, a consortium of over 100 colleges and universities dedicated to the role of higher education in a democracy. In this role, Kevin consults nationally with IA member institutions and partners on the theory and practice of community-university partnerships. Kevin is also the founder and artistic director of the Syracuse-based community arts project, The D.R.E.A.M. Freedom Revival. Along with his work with formerly incarcerated men, entitled Ritual for Return, these areas have been the primary arenas for Kevin's political and civic engagement over the past decade. Kevin ran for mayor of Syracuse on the Green Party ticket in 2013. He garnered 15% of the vote.
He is the former director of education for the New York State prison-arts non-profit, Rehabilitation for the Arts, and has been facilitating theater workshops and original productions in various New York State prisons since 2006. In addition to his work in U.S. prisons and with formerly incarcerated men, Kevin has implemented applied theater initiatives in public schools, drug rehabilitation clinics, and at a minimum-security prison in northern Uganda.
He holds a BA in Italian from Rutgers University and received both his MA and PhD in Educational Theater from New York University’s Steinhardt School. Kevin lives in Syracuse, NY, with his wife and two sons.
