After starting an Art & Design foundation course in 1992 after my A levels, I spent 15 years raising a family whilst working part-time, using every opportunity to satisfy my need for creativity in photography, horticulture, art and design. Please visit loubliss.com/ to browse a selection of my past art, photography, design and craft work.
I worked as a professional studio photographer for Portsmouth Portrait Studio for 3 years and then at Springfield School in Portsmouth for 12 years as an Art / Photography / Display Technician. As well as specialised maintenance duties I covered Key Stage 3/4 teacher absence for art lessons utilising and developing my interest in art history. During this time I designed and created an online gallery to showcase GSCE artwork using Adobe Photoshop™ & Dreamweaver™, and was regularly involved in curating the GCSE Art Exhibition. Subsequently as Display Technician I photographed events and created leaflets, posters and displays as well as furthering my skills in video editing, web design and image manipulation.
I have exhibited work in group exhibitions including pART1 (University of Portsmouth, Eldon Building) 2012; Royal Brompton Hospital Art Exhibition 2012, London; Art of Pattern 2006 & Self Portrait 2004 at Southampton City Gallery and in 2000 I showed a large body of my portraiture work in Portsmouth Central Library in a solo exhibition.
I began studying a BA (Hons) Contemporary Fine Art at University of Portsmouth in 2011 and have found it inspiring and immersing. My work has always been led by what interests me most: mainly music, portraiture, and the contrasts I observe. I employ a variety of mediums having acquired a broad range of skills in the 20 years I have been practicing. Recently my work has been of a personal nature, inspired by biology and science, taking death, preservation, memory and collection as themes.
