Luca Finotti is a video director and video editor working in the fashion system who lives between New York and Milan, where he grew up.
His hallmarks are speed and colors, while his shooting and editing style pays homage to the aesthetic purity of photography of the ’20s.
After High School he graduated in Economics at University Luigi Bocconi in Milan, then moving to New York city to attend the New York Film Academy, making a dream come true.
In September 2010, with the photographer Mariano Vivanco and the stylist Nicola Formichetti directed Amanda Lepore in “Hercules Magazine.
The video was reviewed by the New York Times as one of the top 10 fashion videos of that year.
In September 2010 he worked on the production of the documentary “Anna Dello Russo World Fashion Tour”.
The same year he directed a commercial for “Bloomingdales” with the model Elisa Sednaoui, and the teaser for the December issue of Dazed&Condused Magazine with the photographer Hugh Lippe.
In February he edited his first i-D magazine video with Lady Gaga, always styled by Nicola Formichetti.
During March and April he worked on a video starring Sebastian Sauve for EY! Magateen and directed the video portrait of Sigrid Agren for Muse Magazine.
In the same year he also directed the short movie “Tagled Echoes”, starring Samuele Visentin and Sebastian Sauve for the Milano Mix Film Festival, which was very successful with the critics.
After that he made a collaboration with Models.com named “Kings of Milano”: a video with the best 25 male top models of that time (included Sam Webb, Paolo Anchisi, Francisco Lachowski, Nicola Jovanovic, Marlon Texeira).
Always in 2011 he partecipeted to the ASVOFF festival in Paris and to the La Jolla Film Festival in California with the short movie “Deep in town”, made in collaboration with Mariano Vivanco and Nicola Formichetti.
In September he realized the video installations for the new luxury concept store Excelsior Milano, designed by the french architect Jean Nouvel.
One month later he signed the editing of “Back Damon“, a film by Anna Dello Russo starring Karolina Kurkova for Giorgio Armani and, at the same time, Candy Magazine wanted him to edit the main five videos of their last issue.
In November Luca wrote and directed “The Last Obsession“, a movie starring Jamie Wise for Hercules Universal, all clothes were by Tom Ford.
Last December he directed a video for MFL named “PAz“, presenting Louis Vuitton F/W 2011 collection.
In January 2012, during the Milan men fashion week, he filmed one more time 18 of the most important models of the moment, such as Simone Nobili, Leebo Freeman, Sebastian Sauve, River Viiperi and much more, in #TASTE.IT, an exclusive film for Models.com.
After that, on April, models Alexandre Cunha, Marlon Teixeira and Francisco Lachowski posed for the kaleidoscopic video launch of Made in Brazil #5, a terrific mapping technique experience.
2012 was also the year of the big brands, Luca signed two Dolce&Gabbana campaigns and one short film for Givenchy in Paris.
The double collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana started with ITALIAN FAMILY, a film with superstar Monica Bellucci and top models Bianca Balti and Nobili Simone, having a second round with ITALIANA, another short film for the SS Eyewear Collection 2012 (always having as its protagonist the famous Italian top model).
Givenchy video was made for the seasonal relaunch of the perfume Dalhia Noir starring super model Mariacarla Boscono, with the extraordinary participation of Riccardo Tisci.
In June his “Volcano” (an Armani video editorial for Hercules Universal shooted in Canaria’s Islands the same year) won the art direction’s price at ASVOFF.
Very successful were his pictures and video campaign for Italian brand MSGM (starring models Simone Nobili and Quinta Witzel), and his short film campaigns for Hogan shooted in Cinecittà, with the American actor Steven Dorff.
Always in June Luca had his first cover magazine for DUST, with an editorial of 16 pictures starring Simone Nobili.
The project was launched by a video named INNER#SCARS.
During April he has collaborated with MSGM directing the Spring Summer Campaign called Flowerworks starring Simone Nobili, Quinta Witzel, Samuele Visentin and Loana Timoce.
In 2013 Luca directed a short-film for I-d MAGAZINE staring singer CL from the band 2NE1 - FT Jeremy Scott.
In May he shot the new COVER GIRL campaign starring actress Sofia Vergara and acclaimed singer Janelle Monae.
In June he realized a video campaign for MOSCHINO Uomo Spring/Summer 2014 starring Simone Nobili and Andy Walters. The whole film has a playful mood, created using the stop motion technique.
Then again back to Vogue directing a fashion film in August called “LADY” with Laura Catterall produced by Sebastian Pollin and Nick Lacy. The film was set at The Carlyle,from Rosewood Hotels and Resorts; the story is inspired by “Sylvia’s press conference” sequence, in “La Dolce Vita” by Federico Fellini.
In September for Fucking Young Magazine, Luca worked as a photographer/director and Art Director for the new cover magazine “Teeth /1997 “.
In November working with Art director Lele del Fabbro and D.O.P. Nagata Tetsuo, he filmed the new Tod's commercial, starring Tom Warren.
December was the month of a collaboration with Adidas directing the new Spot "Stan Smith" Re-launch for the Adidas Originals Stan Smith Re-launch party.
In 2014 in April again with Fucking Young Magazine, shooting the new cover magazine “ATTACK ART”, inspired by the Attacker who “restyled” in a Pop art mood the Monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia.
After that he directed the new Hogan commercial “HOGANSEENBY” with the Art director Nicolas Santos
starring model Vittoria Ceretti and Li Bing.
In May directed Aldo’s a new commercial adv “PERFECTPAIR” starring Simon Nessman, Eliza Cummings and Dana Drori.
At the end of July he directed a film for Vogue Italia called “RICORDATI” for the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience. The film takes place at Armani's Hotel in Dubai where the two leading figures weave together with the architectural style creating a game of blacks and whites.
