Hosting the exhibition in the last days before she leaves her house and studio of 20 years, marking an end and a new beginning, Marshall externalises her most private space, her sanctuary. The house is carefully transformed by positioning works that relate directly to their situ. The bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and studio become part of the installation/performance, as are the Artist and her family.

In my end is my beginning features video works, paintings and photographs representing Marshall’s artistic endeavour since 1993, together with a new video, Bewitched (2011), shown for the first time. Through these media, Marshall creates a self-referential body of work that fictionalise the fear of the every day life, experienced as a mother and as a woman.

Maria Marshall has worked with her now teenagers children since they were infants, creating evocative and politically charged micro narrative video works such as The Emperors Clothes (2006), I Love You Mummy I Hate You (2002), 58 days later (2005), displayed in the exhibition, together with a series of paintings (with the support of Potnia Thiron Gallery, Athens) and photographs.
