Rui Cui is currently a candidate of Master of Fine Art in Film production in the School of Cinematic Arts, the University of Southern California.
Cui was raised in Beijing, China. After gaining his double Bachelor of Arts degrees in Digital Media Arts and TV production in the Communication University of China. He came into the States, and spent one year in Cogswell College, Sunnyvale, California to have a further study in Animation and Digital Arts from 2011-2012.
During Cui’s time in University, he worked as a producer in the student TV station, and produced several TV programs on campus from 2008 to 2011.
Cui graduated in 2012 with his thesis film, Indifferent City, which is an experimental short film, a combination of live action and 3D animation that analyses the inward world of a City-Autism patient in the modern society.
After graduating, Cui helped the family’s business of costume design for a few months from May to Aug 2012, while made his own independent short films at the same time. In the same year, another of Cui’s short films, the Potion, was selected by the NFFTY (National Film Festival for Talented Youth) held in Seattle, WA, for the Best Experimental Short Film.
Before long, Cui decided to go back to school to continue and fulfill his strong desire in filmmaking. He chose to apply USC School of Cinematic Arts, the well-known best film school in the world, to pursue his further study in film production. His earnest hope is to become a leader of the new generation filmmakers and to be an important member in the film industry.
Cui is looking forward to joining in a professional film company in Hollywood to start his career after graduating from USC. When the time is right, he is going to fulfill his dream in making his own feature films.
