Matthew Daher - The Wisdom to Know the Difference - "The World Is" (Excerpt)

This piece is from my solo project “The Wisdom to Know the Difference.” The project integrates my practices as an improviser, composer, and producer. Using contact mics, Ableton Live, and apTrigga3 digital samplers, my playing on the drums and cymbals is processed, blended with lush textures, and triggers other sounds at varying degrees of randomness. I don’t always know which sound will be produced when I strike a drum/cymbal. It is an emergent, song-structured web of intended/unintended sonic consequences; an exploration of assuming and releasing control on a sonic and spiritual level.

In this piece, "The World Is", every sound that you hear is generated by my playing on the drums and cymbals.

The lyrics of this piece are inspired by ‘parts work’ - healing work that fosters inner relationships with parts of self.
