Originally born and raised in Palm Springs, Drew received his Bachelors of Arts from the University of California, San Diego. During his time there he became very interested in Ethnic Studies which he not only minored in but also became a starting point for many of his works, including Woman Is and Dragged Through the System. He also created a lecture series dedicated to discussing the representation of race, gender, and sexuality in the media, after the racist events that perspired on the campus in 2010.
Drew is particularly interested in sexuality and representation of sexuality. His works seek to challenge everyday assumptions about performance, particularly class, racial, and sexual performance and how they often intersect. As a visual artist with a background in film, he is interested in looking at representation (particularly sexuality) within the media and challenging notions of what is an acceptable performance of sexuality within society.
