Nishant Ratnakar is a self-taught photographer based in Bangalore city, India. A graduate in Information Science Engineering, he developed an interest in photography during his college years. Nishant left a career in the IT industry, in pursuit of photography. Since then he has worked with several publications in India including the Times group and DNA (Daily News & Analysis).
In the year 2008, he was one among the 30 young Asian photographers selected for the Free workshop held for Young Asian Photographers during Angkor Photo Festival at Siem Reap, Cambodia. In 2010, he was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a 1 year Diploma in Photojournalism from ACFJ (Asian Center For Journalism) at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. The same year, he made his first short film 'Err-bane truth', which documents one of the lost lakes of Bangalore city. The film went on to win the lost lakes of Bangalore video contest organised by India Water Portal.
In his last fulltime job, he served as the Chief Photographer at DNA newspaper, Bangalore.
Nishant is now an independent photographer, instructor, writer, and multimedia producer, and takes up diverse assignments that interest him.
