A time collapse video created with documentary footage of professional pool skater Cory Juneau captured with the Lumia 930. This video combines more than 60 takes of Cory skating, collapsed together in post-production to produce seven stunning scenes. The crazy part: there are zero CG elements in this video.

it doesn't say no AE...just no CG.

Why is it crazy that there's no CG, nothing here would require CG.

You're on it Sean. The CG text isn't really directed at folks that know video making; just for folks who don't do this work and may misunderstand how it's created. Thanks much for checking it out.

This is done with a lot of masking in After Effects. It's not complicated, just very time consuming.

RobertT is right. Tons and tons of masking w/AE. Thanks for checking the vid out!

Check this one out, made by Zbigniev Rybszynski in 1980, when there was no After Effects but a huge machine called Oxberry !

Hey, I'm super new, how did you do this? is it something I can learn how to do? I have a go pro, and a canon 5d m2 and usually edit real estate and wedding videos on Final Cut Pro x. Would love to learn this skill. Video is amazing btw!

As said before: It's just a ton of masking. They recorded the skater multiple times and combined the shots in post through masking the skater out. While shooting they made sure that the camera stays in the same position. Otherwise this effect wouldn't work because a moving camera could cause perspective problems. Even if you're and it works out, it still means more work. Just look for some rotoscoping/masking tutorials here on vimeo or youtube, if you want to learn. I don't know, if you can do prober masking in FCP X. Maybe you have to get a version of After Effects.

Another important thing for this effect is that the background or the main scene, here the pool with the clear sky, stays the same. A changing background means more work and can cause some trouble.

If you have a clean version of the shot you can use Difference Matte in After Affects to easily pull a key, a lot easier than rotoscoping the shots!!!

Awesome Job Professor. You Alex, and the crew killed this video. I am very thankful to have taken your class at City College. Now that this is over lets grab some lunch, the three of us.

Big shout out to the roto artists for making this come to life. Video is cool and looks great.
If you do this again you may want to look into using "difference mattes." Just something that is worth checking out when doing these types of shots. Either way cool stuff and thanks for sharing.

Wow, this is such a dynamic video, does the lumia 930 lock focus and exposure in video mode?

This is a great video !!! But I have to say that it is not a result of Lumia or microsoft (ok ms is the sponsor and Nokia is using ms OS) ... !!! It is the combination of hard work in shooting and editing. Six weeks of editing with two different editors, frame by frame and 50.000 individual edits for the final 90" video ... !!! Bravo !!! It took a lot of time and knowledge to have this result :)

So basically it has nothing to do with Microsoft, their winblowsphone and Lumia, it is just a hard work of post-processing engineers/editors. OK.
