The mission of Perspectives is to provide students with a rigorous and relevant education, preparing them for a changing world and helping them further become intellectually reflective, caring and ethical people engaged in a meaningful life. Perspectives was founded in 1997 by two public school teachers who believed that character development and academic achievement are interrelated. They created a curriculum called A Disciplined Life® (ADL), based on 26 principles of self-perception, relationships, and productivity. Today, Perspectives serves more than 2,300 students, grades 6-12, at five open enrollment public schools throughout the South Side of Chicago. By pairing the principles with rigorous academics and an extended school-day, Perspectives prepares student for college and for life.
