EM van Os (full name Erik Menno van Os) graduated in 1991 as audiovisual programme maker before bringing out two comic books under the name Gnoe: ‘Amen’ (1993) and ‘Mama’ (1996). His subsequent work involved the internet, music and education while he continued to draw as an independent cartoonist for various on- and offline publications.
In 2007, inspired by the advances of digital media, Van Os decided to hazard another go at a long comic story. A never-forgotten nightmare served as his source, which he wrote out first as a novel. He then developed his own realistic digital illustration style and spent the next three years drawing the story.
