RYAN HAPER GRAY was born in Waxahachie, Texas. He grew up in a southern American Pentecostal preacher’s home and had to find his way to art in a wayward fashion. He created to better understand the world, understand himself, and to discover why he didn’t belong. He eventually abandoned his faith but managed to find peace in the act of creating. This is his meditation.
After many years working in the avant-garde theater, he collaborated with the prolific American Independent Filmmaker Jon Jost (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Jost) on five feature length films that have shown at festivals around the world, including, but not limited to: La Biennale di Venezia, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and many more. Split Film Festival (Croatia) awarded the movie HOMECOMING The Grand Prix prize, in which he acted as the lead. It was during those collaborations with Jost that Ryan Harper Gray began to prepare to start his own creative journey into moving images.
Gray currently lives and works on a hillside in Silver Lake, East Los Angeles, California USA.
