Sarah Muehlbauer is a writer, curator, and aerialist nomad with roots in the Midwest and Northeast (USA). Trained formally as a visual artist (MFA Tyler School of Art), she also studied movement from an early age, starting in gymnastics and moving on to yoga and aerial arts. Over the last year, she has trained in process and physical practice with some of the best circus professionals in the world, and is eternally grateful for her experiences beside Circa Contemporary Circus (Brisbane, AU), Lauren Joy Herely of Cirque Eloize (Montreal, CA) and her teachers from Philadelphia School of Circus Arts.
Sarah's personal research explores the mind/body, psycho/spiritual divide with a focus on ecology, radical freedom, and personal responsibility in collective action. Over the years, she has shown nationally in formal art galleries such as the Smithsonian (Washington, D.C.) and Crane Arts (Philadelphia, PA), and performance venues like The Performance Garage (Philadelphia, PA) and The Barrymore Theatre (Madison, WI). She staged a large curatorial project for Philadelphia Fringe Festival 2012 called WAMB that included the work of over 20 guest artists and writers, held in a converted warehouse called The Hatchatory. She's always looking to make new connections, to continue learning, traveling, and making work with others. Follow her on FB, Instagram, and the web under the header "LIONORFOX" to stay connected.
