We help protect island habitats and assist local communities by offering villages a unique deal: if they agree to create a forest or marine reserve, we’ll provide funds for something the village needs, like a schoolhouse or health clinic.

Since 1991, we’ve worked with more than 250 villages on islands in 56 countries, helping to protect more than 1.3 million acres of some of the world’s most vulnerable ecosystems. In 2015, Seacology signed an agreement with the government of Sri Lanka and local NGO Sudeesa (formerly the Small Fishers Federation of Lanka) to protect all of that country's mangrove habitats, our largest project yet.
