Dr. Susan Hwang introduces the day by reviewing data on Colorado’s overdose-related mortality over the last 20 years, the international increase in perinatal mental health challenges during the pandemic, access to substance use treatment services for those who need it, and the disparities that exist within this data. Dr. Hwang also reflects on the data around the spike in substance use and maternal mortality that occurs during the first year postpartum and the imperative need to support families after birth in receiving the support and services they need.
