Since 1999, SpiritHouse Inc., a Durham North Carolina based community organizing collective has worked, primarily in working class African American neighborhoods, to combat the intersectional crisis of racism, poverty, gender discrimination, and the school to prison pipeline.
We pursue our mission and vision, with both compassion and conviction through innovative programs, cultural arts, community organizing and grassroots collaborations. We work side by side with “everyday folk” to challenge the root causes of systemic barriers, that limit us from gaining the resources, leverage, autonomy, and capacity for sustained self-sufficiency.
Our work is created daily through organic pragmatism, which requires our mission be living and pliable. This means that as the conditions in our community shift, our methods of engagement and response grow and shift.
