Social researcher. Ph.D. in Urban Studies in 2008. Co-founder of the Street Food SQUARE Association.
He worked at the Department of Sociology, University of Milano-Bicocca from 2004 to 2013. His main research interests include street food, refugee issues, and informal urban settlements. He is currently focusing his studies on street food governance in South American metropolis. In 2012, he started the Street Food Global Network (streetfoodglobalnetwork.net). Before committing to street food, he has been widely studying urban refugees, also interning at the UNHCR. In 2008, he started and managed the Map Kibera Project (mapkiberaproject.org), a GIS action-research project aimed at mapping structures and dwellers in the slum of Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya. In 2010-2011, he has been Fulbright Research Scholar at the New York University.
He has co-authored the book on asylum seekers Chiedo asilo. Essere rifugiato in Italia (2012) and he is currently co-editing the book Street Food: Culture, Economy, Health and Governance (Routledge, winter 2013).
He is producing the long feature documentary film Esta Es Mi Comida. Street Food Stories from South America (2014).
