Quick n dirty review of my new DSLR rig from Express35 - I basically wanted something like a Redrock Micro Captain Stubling - a hand held rig that could accommodate a follow focus. I looked around found Express35 through Cheesycam.com. This is what Chris at Express35.com came up w/ and it's pretty damn close and for a whole lot less - when I add a DFocus, I'll be still be at only a little more than 1/3 the price of the Redrock rig. I'm going to swap out the grips and add a QR plate - unfortunately, my Manfotto 323 RC2 won't fit because of the lock mechanism on the bottom. I'm pretty stoked w/ this rig and I'm looking forward to putting it through the paces.

Join Steve Weiss, Jens Bogehegn and Scott Lynch as they discuss the benefits of Zacuto's new product, the Z-Riser, which is necessary for a variety of Depth-Of-Field adapters. When the flip module for the Depth-Of-Field adapters came out, Steve and Jens decided that they needed something to support it. By combining parts from other Zacuto products, they created the Z-Riser to adjust the height of lightweight rods for cameras with high lens mounts (like the RED). Most Depth-Of-Field adapters, such as the Letus35, Brevis and Redrock M2, require the Z-Riser. It includes 4.5” female rods and attaches to 15mm lightweight rods with standard 60mm spacing between the rods. This allows operators to rise or lower the rods to accommodate accessories such as a matte box or follow focus. To Buy: https://store.zacuto.com/z-riser.html

Deity Gear makers of the popular C300/500 viewfinder loupe were showing some new products at InterBee in Japan. First we two versions of a v-lock battery that are made out of lithium manganese. Traditional Lithium-ion technology hasn't adapted to the growing requirements of modern digital cameras. Cameras that include the ARRI Alexa, RED Epic, SONY F65 and PDW-F800 have a very high power consumption. This requires a high load capacity. Our MANGA90 & MANGA170 batteries can provide a continuous load of 12A and support load peaks up to 18A. For standard batteries these loads will run the battery down faster and run the risk of damage when discharging. The MANGA90 and MANGA170 batteries are not equipped with the usual Li-ion cells, but with an innovative derivative based on manganese. Conventional Lithium-Ion batteries are generally guaranteed for only 300 to 500 cycle charges, whereas our lithium-manganese MANGA90 and MANGA170 are guaranteed for 1500 cycle charges Also on display were a series of carbon fibre 15mm and 19mm rods. Made from Korean carbon they are available in a variety of lengths. They also had some nice cheese rods that are designed to allow more flexibility and mounting options over traditional rod support. Finally she showed us a prototype of a 15mm carbon fibre rod that had an inbuilt battery inside. With mini USB ports on either end you could charge the battery and then use the 5V output to power things like wireless transmitter systems.
