It was really early in the morning the first time I meet Jason Lowe. Standing in the dark at the start of the fire trail. He was quiet as we walked towards the shooting location on MacMasters Headland. The idea for Sails of Shimmer was a single take. I walk in front of Jason, with a couple of choreographed moves on the way up. Jason climbing towards the crest just as dawn peaked over the headland. Timing was everything on this shoot and I think we did ok. Talking to Jason after the shoot I discovered he was not quiet, just thoughtful. The director Jason and I sat at Belly Fish cafe in Terrigal drinking coffee and talking about growing organic food in Jasons garden. *edit* I posted a version of this where I tested out the warp stabilization filter in After Effects. Link: http://vimeo.com/31380788 Just picked up a Voigtlander Nokton 25mm on Craigslist and I couldn't wait go get out there and shoot some footage with it. Great lens. So enjoyable shooting with it. I shot with Driftwood's 176mbps reAQuainted hack. It's great, but I noticed a lot of banding in the sky on the original footage. Has anyone else noticed this? I plan on checking that out with his v3 hack to see if it does it as well. Stats: Hacked GH2 Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 Fader Variable ND ASA: 160 Shutter: 50 Framerate: 24p Sandisk HD Extreme 16gb SD Card (30MB/s) Handheld (working on putting together some sort of easy stabilization rig) No color correction Edited in Premiere Pro CS5.5 Music: Boards of Canada "Open the Light"

This is a test of the noise levels of a Panasonic GH2 with Driftwood's "GOPStoppa" (176mb GOP1) patch. With the higher bitrates the camera resolves a lot better, but this applies to noise too. While it looks sharper, it also becomes clearer. Hence I wanted to do a test on the different noise levels. It was shot with the lens cap on using Nostalgic (-2, -2, 0, -2), shutter speed at 50 and white balance at 5600K. I've boosted the mids in After Effects, using Magic Bullet Colorista II. The original ungraded originals are avaiable here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5M4N08F1 Something I noticed is that it seems that ISO values based around 160 no longer seems to be the least noisiest, with ISO 320 performing very poorly. It surprised me, but after recording a new clip I got the same results.
