The show's concept is the theory of 1+1=3, that within graphic communication design the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In a world where design is ubiquitous and ubiquity can allow for saturation; we as the fresh faced new graphic communicators have developed an appreciation for design that stretches beyond the basic elements. We understand the significance of the whitespace that surrounds letterforms and the letterforms themselves; the placement of imagery as well as the contents of the image, and the potential for these components to blend and become tools of communication that inform and educate. We as designers ultimately believe in communicating by any means necessary. Visit www.oneplusoneshow.com for further details. Shot and edited by Jeremy Debattista for 1+1=3 Graduate show. "Trivialised to Death: What effect has the 'information explosion' had on society: Mind-numbing, mind-controlling or a Brave New World of choice?" Neil Postman, Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences at New York University, argued in his book, 'Amusing Ourselves to Death', that television media was transforming our culture into one vast arena for show business in which all public affairs (politics, news, education) were being reduced to trivial entertainment. An argument that has become even more relevant today, nearly 30 years after Postman published his book in 1985. The video concept is to take today's explosion of digital information and portray that visually. Part of the visualisation is to challenge the viewers' perception and absorption of mass information. Any guesses about how many video clips are used in this piece? Video created by Dan Healey.

Juni 2012 statt. Konzept & Umsetzung: Carla Zamora, Katharina Berger

A short excerpt from "1 + 1 = 3 [30 seconds]" with English subtitles. "1 + 1 = 3 [30 seconds]" - ("1 + 1 = 3 [30 sekunder]") - is a movie by the artist Krishve and part of an experiment that has been going on since 2010. In short it contains a series of improvised collaborations with several different artists. Each collaboration lasts exactly 30 seconds and is a complete one take experience. No previous planning or rehearsal. The sessions are filmed and recorded there and then, with almost no editing after the event. The experiment is still in progress and there is no finished or final version. It is ever evolving. The experiment takes its starting point from thoughts about time and perception. Forgetting time. Leaving room for the imagination. Rubbing two people against each other and creating sparks. Unforseen gifts presented by chance. Bending time. 30 seconds of being.
