So yesterday I thought I would force myself to shoot at 105mm with the kit lens. Let me tell you that this is TOUGH! But I am SO excited about this look, and really want to master it. I'm bored of wide angle glides now haha...... The music vid got canceled this weekend, but this is great because now I have some new glidetastic ideas for next weeks big shoot!

Monster Pond Hockey and Radar Runs held the weekend of February 11 2012 on Lake Nipissing. This is the first real test I have done for video on the 5d2. The first thing I learnt is I really need to get some brand a variable ND filter and I'm open to suggestions. Hoping to get one that is good quality but wont break the bank. I had to shoot most of this at f22 to keep anywhere near 1/60 shutter speed. This is all sooc footage. I didn't color correct or edit the audio. I did set a custom white balance. It was a cold weekend on the lake. Keeping warm should almost be listed as winter gear (many layers of clothes).. It was -35c most of the weekend and I was out with a few people from my camera club a few hours each day. Frozen fingers become a problem and your battery does not last as long in the cold. Although I was impressed that the 2 batteries in the grip lasted the weekend at those temps. Winter also means all that white snow fools your sensor so you need to be aware of it and compensate by 1/3- 11/2 stops I'm looking forward to spring and some color to get out and start shooting some new video. Is everyone still using the rode vid mic or is there a better mic to use with the 5d2?. This is another accessory I need to get at some point. I spent seven days travelling around the diverse culture Morocco holds. Contrasting the hustle and bustle of Marrakech to the beauty of the high Atlas mountains. I hope to have captured a snippet of the great culture this place has. This is my first experiment working with a Mic to record sound & using the Sony A7s properly. Still lots to learn! from Fu Films Added 2,989 47 11

"Yadorigi: A Village in Portraits" is a short documentary about some bohemian characters in a small village in Japan. I was introduced to the village around May 2010, by friends from Tokyo who had been welcomed into the community. I met Tanakasan (The Junk Collector) when I was first taken round the village, where I also learned about the many other interesting characters living there. Circumstances seemed to conspire toward me shooting this project and, as a British/Japanese who has lived all my life in England and being disappointed at the way Japan was represented through stereotypes in the west (Samurai's, Salary-men and Schoolgirls), there was a strong motivation to show people this overlooked aspect of Japanese life. The full version is 28:57, and is currently being entered into festivals worldwide. Based on the feedback for this project, there will be the possibility returning to the village a fleshing out the bigger themes, as well as documenting other interesting villagers (An architect who left Tokyo to open a cafe in the village, the motorcycle mad baker, a disillusioned teenager dreaming of city life, and more!) The entire project was shot on a busted up t2i/550d and zoom h4n, on a shoestring. Watch some outtakes and sample footage here: http://www.youtube.com/user/fugenie More information about the project is available on the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/yadorigidoc It's always excruciatingly embarrassing to hawk your work online like this, so please support this project by spreading the word and "liking" the facebook page. I went to Temagami with my photo club and a few of us climbed the fire tower. It was pretty windy up there and it was swaying a bit.. I really don't do well with heights but I made it up to the top again this trip. the video is unedited and just a quick clip handheld. I held the camera out from me at arms length. I'm trying to decide if I'm 1/3 winded from the climb and being out of shape and 2/3 fear of heights or the other way around...lol Again wind noise is an issue and I'm looking for recommendations on a good mic to eventually purchase Gear: Canon 5D Mark II +24-105L
