New York: The Big City, The Big Apple, The City that Never Sleeps. Detroit: The Motor City, America's Comeback City, The D. What's in a name? Our hopes, our dreams, our aspirations? I spent some time in both cities again at the end of 2014, whilst making my documentary 'Metropolis: A Timelapse Perspective'. Some of these shots made it to the edit, some did not... We all have a personal relationship with where we are right now... today, last year, a decade ago. Some things stick. For me it was Michigan Central Train Station, and the fist of Joe Louis in Detroit. In New York, Grand Central Train Station with the MetLife building sitting on top of it, and of course, the notoriously hard to access for timelapse, The Empire Stare and now 1WTC by Daniel Libeskind who features in my documentary. A quick overview of the multi-axis motion control capabilities of the new Stage R: Pan and Tilt Rotary System from www.DynamicPerception.com What is the Stage R? The Stage R: Rotary System is a lightweight multi-stage motion control unit. Use it as a standalone pan or tilt timelapse and real-time video platform, combine two units for 2-axis pan and tilt motion or add two units to your slider for full 3-axis motion control. Each system only weighs 3-lbs with motor but can support up to 20 lbs of camera gear. Tough-as-nails is a phrase that's been used to describe these guys. What does this video cover? After the overview we'll cover: - System unboxing and contents - Preparing and attaching an EZ-Swap Motor - Learn how to adjust motor fit - How to connect a camera to the system - How to connect the system to tripods, sliders, D-Pods, etc. - A mad dash through orientation examples: We'll look at a few single axis pan/tilt examples, 2-axis pan and tilt, and 2 and 3 axis complete motion control rigs with the Dynamic Perception Stage One and Stage Zero sliders. Way too many options exist to cover them all here. Where can I learn more? Download this video to view in it's true quality at 1080p. The compression doesn't do it justice. My friend Keith and I are preparing for a Harry Potter themed video, so we wanted to go out and get some test shots today. .... Facebook: http://facebook.com/marcustheproducer Instagram: http://instagram.com/producermarcus Twitter: http://instagram.com/macdaddyjoseph1 All shots except the first and last two (before the before and after shots) have warp stabilization on it. It'll say what is and what isn't in the top left corner. I've found the Nebula 4000 lite to be a fantastic and very lightweight gimbal, and just 1% warp stabilizer can really help the footage look amazing without warping it too strangely. I definitely get way more usable footage with this than with a glidecam. One thing to note about this gimbal is that it doesn't do very well when running. Slower walking movements or riding shots on any kind of vehicle work best. Also, still trying to figure out some problems I'm having with it, for instance it starts over-correcting the tilt, and balancing is hard but not as time-consuming as a glidecam. I mounted it on a fig rig (inspired by Eric Naso) so I can do smoother turns since it has a wider grip. For only about $1,000 total, this rig really makes some amazing footage, as seen here. And I have never gotten tired holding it because of how light the entire setup is. Color graded in Premiere CC. (Pretty lengthy color grading workflow so I can't explain it exactly, used around 6 RGB curves and several lumetris, desaturations as well.) Shot in s-log2 at iso 3200-4000 Lens: Canon FD 24mm f2.8 with metabones adapter. First four shots are on aps-c crop mode, the rest are full frame. F-stop was at something around 11. Looks best in full screen! Check out Keith's channel (the guy in this video): https://www.youtube.com/kfacetv+ More details
