instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Record/ In order to explore the current limits of 3D printing technology, I've created a program for converting digital audio into a 3D model of a record and printed some functional prototypes that play on ordinary record players. The audio on the records is very low resolution, it has a sampling rate of 11kHz (a quarter of typical mp3 audio) and 5-6bit resolution (less than one thousandth of the resolution of typical 16 bit audio), but the result is easily recognizable. Find my Processing code, 3D model downloads, photos, and a detailed discussion of the design process on Instructables. Thanks to Ronny Kerr for helping me film this

A couple of years ago, I took a temp job assisting an architectural model builder. It was an intense experience - meticulously crafting delicate materials into structural works of art. I became fascinated with the craftsmanship and artistic ability that goes into this work. The advent of 3D printing - as exciting as it is - poses a problem for this art form. If a machine can spit out a 3D version of a building, is the era of model-making coming to an end? x.pose is a wearable data-driven sculpture that exposes a person's skin as a real-time reflection of the data that the wearer is producing. In the physical realm we can deliberately control which portions our bodies are exposed to the world by covering it with clothing. In the digital realm, we have much less control of what personal aspects we share with the services that connect us. In the digital realm we are naked and vulnerable. https://www.behance.net/gallery/17256769/xpose ITP NYU Thesis 2014 Special thanks to: Nancy Hechinger, Ben LIght, Eric Rosenthal, Pedro Oliveira, Talya Stein, Roy Rochlin, Heidi Lee, Rashad Taylor, ITP community, Family & Friends Music: Quantic - Time is the Enemy

Behind the scenes 3D printed model of San Francisco: Connex 500 printed 3d model of a portion of San Francisco. The model was created to aid real-estate developer Tishman Speyer in telling the story of urban development in the rapidly changing SOMA neighborhood. It can help with urban planning and building construction decisions that are better understood with the kind of physicality that only a real-world 3D replica offers compared to digital images or digital models.

                    01:44

                    from David Newman / Added

Wanted to trying out this 3D printing craze, so six months ago I order a Printrbot (http://printrbot.com/) through a Kickstarter venture. I remember hearing that this was a two hour build, it was a little longer than that, but fun anyway. I was used to GoPro HERO2 running Protune (yes not released yet, I work at GoPro) running video at 1080p24 (in medium and wide field of views.) The free CineForm Studio was then used to accelerate time with a 200 frame motion blend, taking 2 hour sessions down to around 30 seconds of playback time. I could have done this with the camera's photo mode, but I prefer the motion blended look for summing more video frames into a smooth very long exposure emulation.

A little noisy because acceleration was 3k mm/sec^2 and junction deviation was 0.05 mm. Other than the infill being a little light on the top surface, the part is beautiful.

                      What are Tags?

                      Tags
