Reviews: “A beautiful, compelling film.”- David Williams (Director of “Thirteen” and “Lillian,” Sundance winner 1993) “TIDE” again proves that 35mm photography in high contrast and difficult location situations is still the only way to capture world class cinematic images…images here wash over you with both beauty and a dread that walks hand in hand in both nature and cinema. Well worth a look.” - Rob Tregenza (Director of “Talking to Strangers” and “Inside/Out,” Official Selection “Un Certain Regard” Festival de Cannes 1997) Summary: What is, we cannot be certain; what will be, we can never know. Hal is an everyman, alone on a beach, drifting from routine to aimelessness and back. His task is plain: decorate the slow, expansive time stretched endlessly before him. Anna, too is alone, a carefree child tied – like all of us – to the peculiar and apathetic alchemy of the universe. Production Format: Super 35mm 2.35:1 Running Time: 10 mins. Cast: Kenneth Abrams, Maddie Gunter Crew: Executive Produced by Jacob Dodd Written & Directed by Shane Rocheleau Sound Design & Edited by Bryant Dameron Screening Format: Blu-Ray (NTSC), HDCAM (NTSC) DVCProHD (NTSC) DVCAM/MiniDV (NTSC), DVD (NTSC), BETA SP (NTSC) Awards: Virginia Independent Film Festival – Audience Choice Exhibitions: Virginia Independent Film Festival Sunday, April 26, 2009 @ 4pm Byrd Theatre, Richmond, VA Rosebud Film + Video Festival Saturday, June 27, 2009 @ 12:30pm Rosslyn Spectrum Theater, Arlington, VA James River Film Festival Friday, April 17, 2009 @ 7:30pm Firehouse Theatre Richmond, VA+ More details

this is a camera test of the xh-a1 for comparison in a DI setup to kodak v2 5205 (250 ISO) 35mm film. the 35mm is not included in this edit. the XH-A1 was exposed at iso 250 and rated to 9 stops of total latitude using a modified TrueColor table. shutter speeds from 1/2" to 1/250th. aperture is open. both in camera and mounted ND filters. no grads. no CC. 35mm comparison to corrected 35mm vs out of camera tape, no correction. Conclusions: XH-A1 with gamma at cine 2 should be rated at 300-350 iso for a daylight exposure. pull back and push both conform to the limits of 8bit video and match the expectations from cineon 8 bit files. 10bit and DPX files might help both formats. PS: Later testing with the XH-G1 to HDCAM SR tape at 10 bits 4:4:4 and to ProResHQ 10bit from HDV tape both extended the black range to a D3.5 density, and proved an upper limit of 0.2 for any white details. thus, though range is not improved, recovering shadow detail should be expected. Also treating the footage as LOG with a LUT for viper 320iso produced a more neutral tone in the grays.+ More details
