This footage is of me playing around with what progress I've made with my latest project, ViralByte. It hasn't been a week since starting it but I'm excited about it. ViralByte is a pseudo 8-bit beat'em'up platformer for the PC being developed entirely by myself. There will be more enemy types with different attack patterns and will feature music I haven't made yet. (I won't be using the music I used for this video.) More to come!

San Jamar is a leader in foodservice safety and sanitation products. You have used their products thousands of times; from soap dispensers to those little OCD bartender cubby things that keep all of your cocktail accoutrements lively. The challenge? Their AOR Anothologie asked us to make arcade-style games that will grab attention and get butts in the San Jamar booth for the upcoming NAFEM show, just weeks away. Games? We like games. Yeah, games. Games! GAMES! But it's one thing to make a game and it's another to make them unique, product appropriate, competitive and fun - in 4 weeks. The bar is high, so why not lower it and kick it old school? We concepted 8-bit arcade games that would feel familiar. Speed and intuitiveness were key - lots of distractions (free stuff) at tradeshows. High scorers enter their show badge number for a chance to win Apple swag while low scorers are shamed on social media and run out of the booth with hisses and boos. Some projects aren't huge or life changing or even very serious, and we'e fine with that. Missile Commander signing off. Music By: Chris Zabriskie http://freemusicarchive.org/music/chris_zabriskie

My first independent animated short film, EARTH, VIDEO GAMES, PORT MANN BRIDGE is a chiptune-driven film that traces the history of the Port Mann bridge in Vancouver, Canada, from 1964-2012, including the vehicles and environment during its lifespan. All cars in the film were owned by me or my family at some point. This short film is the result of my 20 years experience animating and teaching in the industry. Upon visiting the Ottawa International Animation Festival for the first time in 2013, I was inspired by the wealth of ideas and talent I saw there, and felt chastised for not creating my own films. EARTH, VIDEO GAMES, PORT MANN BRIDGE was completed 6 months and 300 hours later, followed 8 months after that by "The 8-Bit Cup". EARTH, VIDEO GAMES, PORT MANN BRIDGE starts off in outer space, recalling video games from my youth. We pan over to Earth as seen from space, an image that stuck with me from the first time I saw a photo of the entire Earth as a child. Zooming in to the old Port Mann Bridge, we find ourselves in 1964 as the bridge starts its lifespan and welcomes all types of cars and weather for the next 48 years. In 2012 the old Port Mann Bridge was disassembled once a replacement span was functional. Over 250,000 cars a day passed over the bridge, and it represents the connection of Vancouver with the rest of Canada via Highway 1. - Production time = 300 hours. Running time = 1:40.
