This is a little gadget of no particular utility. I built it mostly to see if I could program the ATtiny chip to run LEDs, each on its own individual timer. The code was compiled via Arduino using an ATtiny core. The code is based on the very useful tutorial found at http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=11411 So, all it does is set 6 leds in a digit matrix flashing. Each LED has an on/off cycle which is 10 milliseconds longer than its predecessor, with an overall tempo determined by the value of the potentiometer. Very simple. The LEDs all light up at the same time initially and then begin to drift out of phase, forming patterns which arrive and dissolve over time. Eventually all of the LEDs synch up again, which can take any thing from a couple of seconds on the fastest setting through to several years on the slowest one. A diverting way to waste a couple of minutes, or a large chunk of your time on Earth.

Hacking together and testing out firmware for my Jar of Fireflies kit! Just received the PCBs last week, now I'm troubleshooting and preparing to begin the next phase of the process - actually selling these things! This is one of 12 LED firefly jars I made for an outdoor event. The effect is charming! Controlled by an ATtiny45 with Arduino bootloader. Details on the project are at www.trevorshp.com/creations/fireflies.htm

While deploying a fab lab in Moscow, I designed and built a Simon game from parts in the standard fab lab inventory. It includes four RGB LEDs, four buttons, and an ATTiny44. For more details, see mattkeeter.com/projects/simon
