A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the completion of Anderson Science Center, named in memory of James R. Anderson and in honor of Rubye Anderson, parents of Tom Anderson. Mrs. Anderson cut the ribbon to the science center. The 22,000 square foot facility, located on the corner of Main Street and Hamlett Avenue, cost approximately $8 million and houses labs for chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology; faculty offices and a conference room are also a part of the building.

CRISIS (Creative Resolutions of Impending Situations with Intelligent Solutions) is Duke TIP’s summer residential program for current fifth and sixth graders in the 4th–6th Grade Talent Search. Through problem-based learning, CRISIS builds leadership and teamwork skills by asking students to assume the role of a professional on a research team—collaborating with team members to solve a community crisis. Participants explore a field such as engineering, law, or journalism while participating in leadership and development activities designed to help them discover more about who they are and what they want to be.

The campus accommodates over 600 students in spacious and adaptable classroom settings, and surroundings that support the school’s teaming and collaboration framework. As future leaders of Hawaiʻi, these students are built with strong character so that their voices resonate throughout our community like the beating of the pahu.
