48 hours in 84 seconds. Here is a time-lapse video of two days of volunteers and staff re-using, re-purposing and recycling obsolete computer equipment. *** Updated version December 2011 *** James Wallbank, CEO of Access Space, pointed out to me that when he shows the raw video to audiences, they always respond well to the pizza break in the middle of the day and the sequence when the seating is returned to the space. So I decided to revise my edit to include the lunch break and make more of that last moment. ********************************* Access Space is a free, open access media lab in Sheffield, UK, for people engaged in creative, enterprising and technical projects. All software used is open-source and all hardware is donated. Access Space is modestly funded by grants, donations and a friends scheme, and hosts an ongoing programme of exhibitions, expositions and training courses. http://access-space.org http://refab-space.org Music by Laurence Alexander http://laurencealexander.wordpress.com Camera & edit by Richard Bolam. http://richardbolam.net

I don't do street art, but how hard can it be? Pretty hard actually. Three days to make it, three hours to hang it and 30 minutes to remove it. This was made for the launch day of the countdown to my retrospective year 2014/15. Thanks to the Rutland Arms, Brown Street, Sheffield, UK for allowing me to mount cameras in their staff play room. A re-edit of the timelapse I shot of me installing the "Bolam Retrospective" banner at Access Space, Sheffield, UK. Rob Speranza of The South Yorkshire Filmmakers' Network suggested I make a trailer to be shown at their monthly Showroom Shorts event at the Showroom Cinema. This time edited in the Photoshop fakes I made previously. http://syfn.org http://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk http://richardbolamat50.wordpress.com http://allyourbillboard.wordpress.com ----------------------- I don't do street art, but how hard can it be? I had a brilliant idea to capture a multi-camera time-lapse of myself creating a new artwork for this year's 20x20 open-call exhibition at Access Space, Sheffield, UK. Unfortunately, I met with more than one technical failure in my attempt to create a satirical take on the ubiquitous but misused QR code. 20x20 is an annual open-call exhibition at Access Space where the only requirement is that the submitted work is 20 inches square. I wanted to work to a 20x20 grid and the final work is a cardboard mosaic entitled "HR Code #1: Humanus Legibilis Memento Mori", and stars a digital incarnation of my cartoon creation from the 1990s, Stalky Ringbits. Here you can see four days in the life of an artist who turns out not to be a painter. More information about my epic failures but triumph in the face of adversity here: http://wp.me/p2Ec36-3G 20x20 2012 is a free exhibition open to the public until 17th November 2012. NESTA Digital Makers fund application video. (Made in one take - the real value is in the words that go with it!) The key point is for us to develop and publicise a methodology whereby ANYONE who has a laser cutter can run REALISTICALLY priced workshops, that anyone can afford. How? By making a system whereby participants who can't afford to pay full price can spend a few hours consolidating their newly-acquired skills, making things for us to sell, to cover the cost of their support.

A collection of photos, including all exhibits, from the opening night of the 2011 20x20 exhibition. This was the 6th year of 20x20 and a record number artists submitted works. 20x20 is an annual open submissions exhibition. The only stipulation is that works are no larger than 20" by 20". The exhibition attracts a diverse range of artists and exhibits including professional and first-time exhibitors. www.access-space.org.uk
