A documentary about a journey to "The Edge of the Earth". The Gates of the Arctic National Park is the northernmost national park in the U.S. (the entirety of the park lies north of the Arctic Circle). There are no established roads, trails, visitor facilities, or campgrounds in the park. Following the Alatna River you will see an amazing place people rarely see, including the amazing Arrigetch Peaks. "For the next two weeks you must survive using the knowledge, skills and gear you bring with you. You will walk or float through intact ecosystems where people have lived with the land for thousands of years. You will experience solitude, self reliance and nature on its own terms. Are you prepared?" Filmed using Solar Power for Two Weeks = 10,000 combined shutter releases and video clips. Below is the link to how I accomplished this and stored all the pictures and video files. So this is what I did over this past winter when I was not making people coffee. It's all time-lapse footage shot in and around Anchorage, Alaska, with the emphasis on the nature around the city rather then on the people and buildings. This is a collection of the nicer stuff I shot of the northern lights, stars, sunset, and the tide. All of this was shot between October 2011 and April 2012. The music is Aston's Classical Cover of the song You've Got The Love by Florence & The Machine. http://www.youtube.com/astonmusic Music used with the bands permission. : ) Equipment used: Canon 5D Mark II Canon Rebel xTi (modified to full spectrum) Canon EF 24 - 105 mm Sigma DC 18 - 200 mm Sigma 8mm EX DG Fisheye (a thoroughly epic lens) Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly (kinda beyond epic) Orion TeleTrack AZ-G Mount (really good for astrophotography) Motorcycle and Car batteries from my locale battery store And a lot of wires that connect everything together. Adobe Bridge CS4 and CS5 Adobe Photoshop CS4 Adobe Lightroom 3 LRTimelapse (pretty much the most amazing software ever) Hugin (for unwrapping the 8mm shots) Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (for making the stills move) (Please note that the colours look different (like a lot) on different screens. The colours here look desaturated from the original file on my screen. But the colours look like the original on other screens, but not all, I'm not sure why.)

There are some things in this world that everyone deserves to experience with their own eyes. I headed to Alaska in February with the hope of catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights with mine. That glimpse turned into an extravaganza...a party in the sky, and I was an onlooker, a face in the crowd...awestruck, mesmerized, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Night after night I was captivated by bright and colorful lights dancing wistfully above me; a graceful representation of the light in my soul. These were enchanted nights like I've never experienced. And while my camera captured a play-by-play of the spectacle, I could be found dog sledding through snow-covered forests, relaxing by the fire in a toasty cabin, or simply laying down in the snow and drifting into the dance. This was the most amazing trip of my life so far...and here it is, summarized in under 3 minutes. This is my first time time lapse film, so it means a lot that you're here, reading this, stepping into a very special piece of my past. Using text adapted from Robert Marshalls "Alaska Wilderness: Exploring the Brooks Range" (1929) and images from Expedition Arguk (2013), "The World Beyond the World" aims to celebrate that most ancient and sublime of human pleasures: moving through a mysterious, beautiful, and unknown landscape. In 2013, Expedition Arguk walked and packrafted across 300 miles of wilderness in the Alaska Arctic in order to report on Arctic issues and create public-use media from this far-off but increasingly important region. "The World Beyond the World" was shot during the first third of our trip, which took place entirely in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. Gates of the Arctic is the second-largest US National Park, but its extraordinary remoteness and challenging weather mean that the Park sees relatively few visitors. There are no guidebooks, trails, campgrounds, or roads. Most of the photos that make up this film are available for 100% free, unrestricted public use at www.expeditionarguk.com Assembled entirely from stills shot with a Nikon D7100 camera, using a Nikon 55-200 VR and a Tokina 11-17 ultrawide lens. Post-production in Photoshop and After Effects, with countless hours on a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. We are immensely grateful to the American Alpine Club, the Sierra Club Alaska Chapter, the Alaska Wilderness League, Ground Truth Trekking and our many other sponsors and advisors. Additional thanks to our volunteer translators: Christopher, Pedro, and Anders. For more, check us out at www.expeditionarguk.com

Watch the Light Suit Segment here: https://vimeo.com/108679294 Presented by Philips TV and Atomic Skis Featuring: Pep Fujas, Eric Hjorleifson, Daron Rahlves, and Chris Benchetler From the depth of the creative visuals to the groundbreaking, never-been-done-before scale of the shoot, Afterglow is being hailed as one of the most cinematically profound ski movies ever made. Deep pillows and Alaskan spines, all filmed at night, with massive lights, custom made LED suits, and a national governments worth of logistics, planning, and civil engineering. Filmed as a partnership between Sweetgrass Productions, Philips TV, and the Swedish Agency Ahlstrand & Wållgren, it's two parts creativity, one part branded content, and a pinch of masochism for good measure. Overall, it's an incredibly unique partnership between our vision of skiing and the color and light technology behind the Philips Ambilight TV. With the support of my partners we have released a web serie during the season. We’ve tried to document more than just the action and show people what it takes as effort, luck and commitment to get the best possible big mountain video part in TB20 from Standard Films. Although the snow conditions were terrible in Europe last winter we hoped all season long we could have enough unseen action and interesting backstage material to come up with a movie and have a chance to share our experience.
