////////////////////////////////////////////////// Performing Architecture 19.02.2014 ////////////////////////////////////////////////// Alex Schweder claims that architecture is performed as well as built. During his talk, Performing Architecture, Schweder presents works from his practice that combine concepts from architecture and performance art to become what he describes as 'performance architecture'. He will outline how this can expand the practice of architecture, increase the agency of it's occupants, and how this approach to spatial production, subjects and spaces construct one another in a way that accounts for the flux in both. Biography Alex Schweder lives in New York. He studied architecture at Pratt Institute, Princeton, and Cambridge and has experimented with architecture through its exhibition for over a decade. Since winning the Rome Prize in 2005 his work has focused on the connections between performance and architecture. Since this time he has produced and exhibited many works of what he now calls “Performance Architecture”: Flatland at New York’s Sculpture Center, Stability at Lawrimore Project in Seattle, Its Form Follows Your Performance at Berlin’s Magnus Muller, A Sac of Rooms All Day Long at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Architectural Performances in Geologic Time at the Chinati Foundation, Counterweight Roommate in Scope Basel, Roomograph at the deCordova Museum, The Rise and Fall at the 2012 Marrakech Biennial, The Hotel Rehearsal at the Biennial of the Americas, Sometimes Ceiling at the Lisbon Architecture Triennial, Performance Architecture at Solyanka in Moscow, and Practise Architecture at Tate Britian.
