FIRMES is an On Going Project that is starting from this point, a first approach to the Low Riders community in Bronx, NY. The "Firme Ridaz". The Firme Rydaz are a group of mostly undocumented Mexican immigrants and Chicanos who have left loved ones behind and come to the Bronx in search of better economic opportunities. They form what is often referred to as an urban tribe: a group of friends and family who live by their own rules, codes, and attitudes. The Rydaz mostly make a living working as car mechanics, in restaurants, construction, or as tattoo or airbrush artists. And they have one thing in common: they are incredibly nostalgic for their querido México. They miss traditions and family and all that remains across the border. They feel that maintaining closeness with their Mexican heritage is vital to their survival and they cling to their heritage as a result of being labeled illegal and having faced discrimination and racism from neighboring Black and Puerto Rican communities. Intensely proud of their Mexican heritage, The Firme Rydaz express their identity through art and design, decorating their skin, adorning their homes, motorcycles, bikes and cars. They almost always incorporate folkloric and revolutionary Mexican icons in their art and ink. Images of prehispanic Aztec figures, La Llorona, La Catrina, La Santa Muerte, Our Lady of Guadalupe are staples and favorites. To them, forming their own culture and community while maintaining their own traditions is refusing to adopt a minority, deprived or disadvantaged status. They live happy lives and maintain optimism, but they also face many difficulties. Because of the way they look, dress, and the multiple tattoos, the Rydaz are often thought to be gang-bangers. Some are former gang members who joined the pandilla to create Mexican public space in the Bronx and protect themselves from the violence of Black and Puerto Rican youth gangs in public schools and on the streets. But the group we are following do not consider themselves to be violent. They do not make a living from committing crimes. They do not want to be gang members. Those who were part of gangs when they were younger realized that path stretched straight to jail. The Firme Rydaz have built a new kind of community in the Bronx where they can express their identity and collective imagination and are respected and looked up to by the younger Mexican generations.

This a Video Memory of the event Cumbre Tajín in 2005, the first of the cumbres that we work in with collective OZU media. It was interesting the combination of graphics with video, we work very hard to get this, also because we had too much material from a 5 days all day festival. I like very much this video, I think that shows very well how this festival was.

This one of the ten tracks video DVD of "La Ceiba Gráfica" wich I made recently with Per Anderson. I enjoyed a lot working with him cause he has in mind everything he wants to reach. I love working that way. I also learned a lot from Per Anderson´s technic which he has been working on for more than ten years of investigation. In this video you can see how he makes paper in an ancient way using fabrics instead of recycling paper. This way you can get better paper and without any chemical. You can see the complete ten tracks in this youtube channel: youtube.com/user/ceibagrafica#p/a

This is a live performance video of the song "Camila", played by the music band Balún at Museo del Barrio in the upper east side of Manhattan. It is a very special place that used to be an orphanage, inside the theatre you can see many beautiful murals, and the feeling of the place is nice. This concert was performed mainly for children. Balún was formed in 2002, a band of classical and folk instruments, and experimental pop music. This was an didactic and interactive concert with multimedia and music. It was hard to record because I was the only camera man, I had to take advantage of the rehearsal a day before and make some tricky shots the day of the concert. I hope you like it.
