The Minneapolis Museum of Art redesigned their African gallery in 2013 and they created an interactive map of Africa that's used by docents in front of an audience and by individuals who are looking for more information. Project creator Mike Mouw (now at the High Museum in Atlanta) demonstrates. The beautiful 80" touch-screen monitor is from Microsoft. https://customers.microsoft.com/Pages/CustomerStory.aspx?recid=2775

    • Nataša Mirtič - Grafike: otvoritev razstave / opening ceremony (8. 5. 2015)

      02:55

from Galerija Božidar Jakac Added 114 0 0

Nataša Mirtič sees printmaking as an autonomous means of expression that differs specifically from other artistic media and allows special formal and aesthetic effects. Her understanding of printmaking is based on the assumption of the “purity” of the medium, which emphasises its essential structural and textural qualities. Her printmaking practice is characterised by a subtle study of the relationships between artistic elements, and she complements formal emphases with the associativeness of artistic symbols. In the prints from the Grafika series, the artist Mirtič respectfully interprets printmaking tradition, pointing openly to the references that inspire her, but at the same time draws on contemporary consumer culture in her choice of subject-matter. In this way she creates formally pure and semantically rich works of art that combine elements of high modernism with newly interpreted tradition.

A Specific Representation # 2 continues as researching into the initial questions which motivated A Specific Representation (http://www.mireiasaladrigues.com/w/specific-representation), as much as the ones that germinated from it. Here again, six people move normatively and repeat the same pensive gestures, which, as spectators, we all represent within an exhibition. But in this case, the iterative exercise session, and the recalling the body memory for a reenactment, happens in an opposite environment to that of a gallery: an open area that undergoes constant transformations. Can the museum emerge in the largest granite quarry of Europe when recalling the learned and internalized gestures between stone blocks, and men and machines’ comings and goings? And if so, would these “repetitive gestures” rewrite such a signified place or just add another layer on it?

          • Mirko ZRINŠĆAK - Skulpture / Sculptures: otvoritev razstave / opening ceremony (10. 4. 2015)

            03:16

from Galerija Božidar Jakac Added 60 0 0

Mirko Zrinšćak (1953, Volosko, Croatia) has placed nine monumental wooden sculptures – whose pronounced verticals create subtle effects – in a dialogue with the space represented by the former monastery church. In the right light, these sculptures appear to float in space. In terms of content, the works are a continuation of the exploration of sculptural form begun by the artist in 2008 with the installation of his exhibition Forms of Space in Zagreb’s Art Pavilion. The artist continues his search for the ideal form, which in his words is a sublimation of all forms of his own personal archipelago, in the former monastery church in Kostanjevica na Krki. This search should be understood as the artist’s intimate meditation and search, which in Zrinšćak’s case is not a method but rather derives directly from his way of life, wholly dedicated to sculpture. This is why we can also understand Zrinšćak’s sculptures in the field of the sublime as an artistic statement based on experience. Any kind of insight requires profound attention from the viewer, a kind of haptic state in which an instinctive desire for tactility appears, when in the silence we start to pick up vibrations that we then feel somewhere in our gut, and hear the sounds of timelessness, when from far back in the past we also hear the here and now.

The following project showcases concept development and problem solving skills. I had to find a practical solution to promote a fictional cultural event that interested me. This imagined event takes place in Brazil at The NITEROI Contemporary Art Museum. The two-day event covers topics such as enviromental issues, urban growth and technology. In this 38 second video I explored concept development, image manipulation, color, effects and typography.
