Time to rock! Staying enthusiastic about your art and design is not entirely about finding new clients, nor is it about the changing industry. We need inspiration, entertainment, progression, a solid bridge between conceptual and technical, and a positive outlook on our place in the design universe. In this recorded session from FITC Toronto 2011, James White discusses the ins and outs of selling your personal artwork online and the adventure of building a line of designer t-shirts and posters. He also presents the lessons learned from running his Signalnoise Design Studio for the past five years and how he went about creating his name in the design industry. Thanks to our video sponsor Vitamin T for making this possible. Follow @vitamintalent on Twitter for more. Warning: This is only suitable for sexy people. In this walkthrough of a design process in illustrator, you'll be shown how to make an epic organic illustration completely out of defaults in Illustrator. It could very well be used in a funky T-shirt! I will be continuing this artwork in Photoshop, so look out for Part 2 of this tutorial - coming soon. If there is any part you weren't clear on, please feel free to make a comment and I'll update this post with an FAQ. Thank you for watching :D http://www.anothera.net for more.

A video that was shown during a presentation of ours at the 2010 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Fransisco, CA. My company art director asked me to put together a sequence of artwork from the artists at our studio. Instead of just a simple, static Powerpoint presentation, putting them into video form allowed a great deal more flexibility and allowed us to also release it online for our games' fans. Also featured, though it wasn't announced at the time, are clips from our stylized and innovative in-game cinematics (they are NOT pre-rendered at all). My credits: arranging and animating the artwork, video capture and editing, musical selection and layout, sound effects design, layout and editing, and almost everything in-between.

This short film highlights an art collaboration by visual artist Steve Tilden, poet Paul Merchant, and composer Tomas Svoboda. This was originally filmed and edited by me for the purpose of documentation, though I have attempted to gain a narrative structure that hopefully profiles each person enough to get a sense of their personality and work within the context of their collaborative effort. For my part, what began as a simple capturing of process for posterity has become a fuller realization of the nature of collaboration, particularly when it comes to three separate areas of concentration coming together for the joy of exploration. It is in the spirit of that journey that I present this piece.

Artonomy's most recent Healthcare project was the curation of the artwork program at the Cancer Care Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Our vision for the project was to create a space in which the patients feel comfortable and in control of their environment. We took into consideration the whole healing process. In addition to the artwork, Artonomy created a video installation interviewing each artist about the inspiration for their piece commissioned from the hospital.

Transformer is proud to present the installation work of Detroit-based artist Lauren Rice in her first DC solo exhibition. Similar to set designs for theatrical events, the landscapes Rice creates in her sculptural work are fantastical - elements appear to collapse, levitate, burst and grow within the gallery space. With Heirlooms, Rice references gardens and flowers, while simultaneously vulgarizing their traditional preconceptions as feminine and romantic. The organic "flowers" are bulky blobs resting uncomfortably upon their armatures of wooden dowels, wire, and cement. Each one original, these objects crafted from window screen, newspaper, phone book pages, spray paint, and glue bear more of a resemblance to kudzu than a tended garden. The monstrous vegetation entices the viewer while threatening to become a metaphor for disease and decay.
