Question: "How bad is my BMPC4K with my stills lens compared to an ALEXA with £60k lens?" Answer: "Well, the difference between the two is as clear as day. However, not enough to stop you from creating beautiful work. The ALEXA is darn beautiful but the BMPC is no ugly duckling" Low cost camera: BMPC + Samyang 50mm T1.5 ( ~ £3,000 ) High cost camera: ARRI ALEXA + Angenieux 24-290mm Optimo T2.8 ( ~ £150,000) BMPC using 4K RAW (400ASA @ T1.8) ARRI ALEXA using ProRes 4444 XQ (800ASA @ T2.8)

Sometimes you have to escape... Starring 'The Lone Cypress Tree' check out my old friend 'Sunset Tree' back home https://vimeo.com/92588325 Captured from the iPhone 6+ and a few clips from the BMPC 4K edited on iMovie Music from the Vimeo Music Store - https://vimeo.com/musicstore/track/113848/basking-in-the-afterglow-by-drazy-hoops Technical and some tips: My top tip for getting a clear night shot that looks like you captured it under the moonlight from your iPhone is to capture it in the daytime and lock the exposure and focus on the bright sky, see the ending of the film. iMovie is a great App if you have an iPhone as you can bring the sound/music into the fore or background without the need for any sound mixing software. Videoshop is a great App for colour grading your iPhone clips, you an easily bring out the colour and shadows from an under exposed shot. Remember to lock your focus and exposure when shooting and adjust your brightness when doing so to preserve as much details as possible. I imported the BMPC 4K (after grading it on DaVinci Resolve) long clip from my Google Drive onto the iPhone and then split on iMovie, so you can easily use other clips/sounds to work on your mobile device. It's actually quite fun doing it tis way rather than your native editing software on the PC or MAC. Take some field sound recordings and you will have a great library to work with. The Swiftcam ML 3 axis Gimbal for mobiles is an amazing must have for mobile film making and all those clips with movement cannot be done on the bigger cameras so easily, I recommend it any day. The slomo does lose quality on the iPhone but works well when you have something in the foreground to focus on as the depth of field gives that background just a tinch of blur to mask the drop in quality. There are some really great musicians on the Vimeo Music Store, Drazy Hoops, Broke for Free, Chris Zabriskie, Maya Solovéy, The Upsidedown, Nicole Reynolds and David Balize just to mention a few of my favourites. Please feel free to ask me anything, there is one more film from my very short trip to the US still to come :)

This project was really exciting to be involved with as it was new territory for both myself & Adelaide Animation & Visual Effects Studio, Resin. It involved the use of a motion control rig allowing us repeatable camera movement over a three day shoot. It will become clearer as the other scripts are completed as to how motion control became a key factor in the production. To complement the camera movement we animated on-set lighting. This was something of a first for us, animating flicker & changing levels throughout the shots provided seamless lighting changes from scene to scene. As always, it was incredible to work with such talented people. Because of the complexity of this project, it was extremely important that every crew member in each department applied their skills to a high standard, resulting in the success of the final product. I really look forward to sharing the two remaining TVCs as they come to hand. What are Tags?

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
