1. Battle Of The Brands: Yes

    from Snowboarder Magazine Added 6,282 17 1

In order to watch Romain De Marchi and DCP snowboard on the silver screen, you’d usually have to pay $19.99, and it would come in DVD form, but not anymore, thanks to the Yes team’s attendance at Superpark 16. Speaking of 1999, that is probably the last time that both Romain and DCP attended Superpark. The alpine icons packed up an RV and road-tripped it to Bachelor with the rest of the Yes Snowboards team, including French Canadian crusher Frank April, jumping juggernaut Madison Ellsworth, Colorado killer Colin Spencer, and Scandinavian psycho Marius Otterstad. After their Superpark exploits are over, they skate, surf, and live the prototypical RV life, all edited to the memorable medleys of Fleetwood Mac and Motörhead. Starring: DCP, Romain De Marchi, Madison Ellsworth, Frank April, Colin Spencer, Marius Otterstad Filmers: Pascal Gallent, Jim Langer Soundtrack: Fleetwood Mac, “Never Going Back Again”; Motörhead, “Overkill”

The savage shreds from Smith Optics came back from Mt. Bachelor with a slew of footage and decided to throw their edit into the ring as a Battle Of The Brands alternate. Well, we have our sixteen submissions so no backups were needed, but this saga from Smith, set to the sounds of Megadeath and featuring the riding of Wyatt Caldwell, Colin Langlois, Jeff Kramer, Pat Lee, Chelone Miller, Taylor Carlton, Corey Noble, and Smith TM Nate Farrell who also provides the overdub narrative, is too good not to put in the mix somehow.

        from Snowboarder Magazine Added 18.6K 115 8

Those who are easily offended should steer clear of this lo-fi and low-brow entry from Volcom. From Dylan Alito’s take on drunk dialing to motor boating madmen to drive-by boob tube lawn jobs, the “Stoners” sent it as hard at Superpark 16 off the hill as they did on. Intertwined with this pre-and-post shred mayhem are clips of Zac Marben’s three story high hip maneuvers, Daniel Brown baggin’ bangers off the chain, Dylan Alito’s loose lines, Frank Knab hucking double heave hos, Bjorn Leines’s seasoned take on the Seven Springs setup, and Scott Blum’s booming board control in addition to other riders keeping it real and keeping it raw. Starring: Dylan Alito, Scott Blum, Daniel Brown, Curtis Ciszek, Blair Habenicht, Frank Knab, Bjorn Leines, Zac Marben, Cody Rosenthal (cameo), Jimmy Goodman (cameo) Filmers: Jake Price, Pat Barraza, Seth Huot, Greg Weaver, Blair Habenicht Soundtrack: El Michels Affair, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” Enter the 37th Chamber; Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony, “First of Tha Month,” E. 1999 Eternal; Apache Indian, “Boom Shak-a-lak,” Nuff Vibes EP

The three-act structure is a staple of modern film narrative. Last season’s Battle Of The Brands critics' choice winners, Volcom, return to this social media melee with an offering that is a textbook example of the tried-and-true three-act edit. The setup, aptly titled Part 1: Black & White, is taken on by alpine auteur Pat Barraza who delivers a stunning one minute and 40 second monochromatic montage of Zac Marben, Johnny Lazz, Gray Thompson, Mike Rav and Skylar Thornton. Part 2: Unfollow, as produced by Jake Price, is classic Volcom with a lo-fi, flow down the snow with your friends, feelgood vibe. Captured on grainy stock with the primary focus being the other side of Bachelor that lies beyond the Superpark boundaries Unfollow could put Volcom ahead. Part 3: True To This, as tackled by filmmaker Greg Weaver, is a fast-paced and dense collection of clips showcasing Dylan Alito, Ruiki Masuda, Scott Blum, Seth Huot, and Hunter Wood, all unfiltered and fearless.

For Flow Snowboards’ 2012 Battle of the Brands edit, they employed three icons (aside from NXTZ Team and Marketing Manager Dale Rehberg) to assist in the production value of their final offering. To further embed the riding of Scot Brown, Nial Romanek, Brandon Reis, Jordan Nield, and Tim Humphreys into your minds, Flow went ahead and tapped famed lensman Chris Brunkhart to document their week in Bachelor. On top of Brunkhart’s Super 8 Superpark 16 masterpiece, the second tune in the two-song edit is none other than Wes Makepeace and Mat Donahue covering “Highwayman” by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. Now that we think about it, this edit is simply legendary. Starring: Scot Brown, Nial Romanek, Brandon Reis, Jordan Nield, Tim Humphreys Filmers: Chris Brunkhart, Zach Egge, Dale Rehberg Soundtrack: The Blackwater Fever; Wes Makepeace and Mat Donahue, “Highwaymen”

              from Snowboarder Magazine Added 22.5K 86 0

One of snowboarding's most profound brands is officially in BOTB. The B not only brought a world-class team to Superpark but the production value to accompany a faculty as elite. In other words, the Burton team came to play and judging by the quality of riding blended with the cinematography, they did their diligence with this short film. Featuring the riding of Mikkel Bang, Marko Grilc, Peetu Piiroinen, Werni Stock, Gabe Ferguson, Brock Crouch and Red Gerard, Roope Tonteri, Zak Hale, Ethan Deiss, Brady Lem, Niels Schack, Shane Ruprecht, Ezra Racine, and Tommy Gesme, this edit features every feature on the hill and Superpark-esque tricks that make the event what it is, like massive transfers, double back rodeos, and gigantic session-shutting down airs.

                from Snowboarder Magazine Added 40.3K 144 3

Last season's Battle Of The Brands runner-up, Arbor has forgone the same old tricks for their 2013 campaign in favor of new tricks like a method late frontside 180, frontside 1080 double tail grab, frontside grab eggplant, Taipan and tail double grab backside 720, 50-50 to 450 out and double backflip double kicking one-footer, showing that there is no need to sacrifice style or creativity when you are riding the biggest shit of the season. Or at least that’s what it looks like when Nick Visconti, Blake Axelson, Brandon Hammid, Sean Black, Mark Reininga, Mike Gray, Yuma Abe, Sammy Spiteri, Erik Leon, and Scott Vine strap in at Superpark.

                  from Snowboarder Magazine Added 13.9K 51 1

Tucker Andrews, Max and Gus Warbington, Blake Paul, Jesse Burtner, Brandon Hammid, Blake Paul, Sammy Luebke, and more make up the Mervin team for their first appearance in Battle of the Brands. Combining the powers of Bent Metal Bindings, Gnu, and Lib Tech, Mervin Manufacturing put together a submission that left us speechless, both from the riding itself and the acid-influenced editing including but not limited to planets flying through the sky, trippy backdrops, multiple backflips, intermittent screaming, kittens (we think?), a D.I.Y. rap video, and much much more. This is a video you'll have to watch more than once just to catch everything that's going on and because of that, it may give you the most bang for your buck out of any edit posted up here.

With a strong team showing at Bachelor came a heavy roster of Ride riders, and when they showed up to the Superpark, it was all-out war. Their edit, filmed by Tommy Little, Yugo Tamagaki, and Team Manager Matt Sickels is highlighted by Brennen Swanson’s double corks, Austin Hironaka’s seemingly effortless style, Todd Kirby emulating Austin’s fluidity, and Yuki Kadono, the young Japanese ripper whose efforts earned him a nod from the SNOWBOARDER staff as one of the top ten standouts at Superpark 16.
