The California Independent System Operator issued the "Flex Allert" because of all power usage heating homes in the extreme cold back east. San Diego Gas and Electric is echoing the call for conservation. SDG&E is offering a 75 cent per kilowatt hour credit for people that reduce their power usage between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. San Diego Company and its 400 employees are leaving town for Austin Texas. Websense, a web security software developer founded in 1994, was bought by Texas based Vista Equity Partners. Texas Governor Rick Perry is promoting Texas as a better place to have a business then California. And Perry goes on to say that Vista Equity is going to spend 9.9 million in Texas. However I have to question the long term economic impact ... equity companies usually buy then gut companies. So i wonder what will happen to the 400 employees in a year or two. That said ... keeping businesses in San Diego is sure to take the front burner in our mayoral race. With Valentine’s Day around the corner the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reminding us about all of the rules limiting people from bringing flowers into the states from Mexico. This morning at 8:30 they're talking with the media at one of San Diego's border crossing cargo facility. In San Diego's courthouse this morning at 9:00 lawyers for former San Diego Police officer Anthony Arevalos are asking a judge to decide if evidence was left out by prosecutors. Arevalos was convicted of sexually assaulting several women while on duty. His lawyers say that victim statements were left out of evidence and that they could help Arevalos's case. Then at 1:30 this afternoon also in San Diego's courthouse Judy Lynn Hayman is scheduled to be arraigned. Hayman had been living as a fugitive for over 37-years after escaping from a Michigan prison following her conviction for larceny. San Diego's Police are getting money to put defibrillators in their patrol cars. Councilman Mark Kersy is making the announcement at 11:00 AM . Then at 11:30 State Assembly Member Toni Atkins is talking with the press about new legislation that is meant to help strengthen privacy for domestic violence victims. At 4:00 PM the Kiwanis Club of San Diego is honoring school counselors at its 9th annual Celebration of San Diego Unified School Counselors. Authorities call the sweep called Operation Tip the Scale and over 100 officers were involved. Out of the 26 people arrested, 10 are in custody and accused of felonies, 16 for misdemeanors, and 2 were taken to drug treatment. California Highway Patrol and Chula Vista Fire Department respond to an incident at which a CHP officer placed a firefighter in handcuffs. Firefighters and CHP responded to an accident last Tuesday and reportedly the CHP officer asked firefighters to move their truck. Reportedly the fireman placed in cuffs told the officer that they needed to leave the truck parked on the freeway to shield an ambulance. And that’s when the Officer put the veteran firefighter in cuffs and then in the back of his cruiser. Yesterday the two agencies met and released a joint statement saying … "This was an isolated incident and not representative of the manner in which our agencies normally work together toward our common goal." A woman on the run from the law for 37-years is in San Diego's downtown courthouse this morning at 8:30. 60-year-old Judy Lynn Hayman escaped from a Michigan prison and has been living in San Diego since. She even has a 32-year-old son that knew nothing of her escape. In 1976 Hayman pleaded guilty to a larceny charge and was sentenced to 16-months to 2-years. 10-months after she began her sentence she escaped. Also in court this afternoon at 1:30 Ameen Brynt is on the calendar to be arraigned. He's accused of trying rape a woman in Balboa Park. In El Cajon's courthouse at 1:30 25-year-old Carl Noble will be arraigned and accused of stealing a car, taking police on a chase that ended in a hit-and-run. San Diego officials are naming a City Heights park after slain San Diego Police Officer Jeremy Henwood at 10:00 AM. The park is next to the City Heights Library at 3795 Fairmont Ave. At 3:30 teens from all over San Diego are competing in the 9th annual Teen Iron Chef Competition. Students are making 3-course meals with a secret ingredient just like they do on the Food Network show. Kudos to KFMB for being on the scene and getting the video. According to their report … Firefighters were at the scene of an overturned car in the center-divide of the 805 freeway near Telegraph Canyon Road. CHP officers asked the firefighters to move their truck. We don’t what happened next but … The fireman was handcuffed and put in the back of the CHP cruiser for about 30 minutes then released. Reportedly both agencies are going to meet today to discuss the incident. San Diego's best student athletes officially declare the college their going to this morning at 8 AM. Athletes form soccer, track, cross county, water polo, and football are signing their National Letters of Intent at a ceremony inside Balboa Park's Hall of Champions. At around 10:10 last night the victim was hit by the box truck and according to the CHP the truck slowed down but then took off. San Diego County is getting showers along the coast and inland valleys and snow in the mountains. The National Weather Service issued then canceled its winter weather advisory for San Diego city but the east county mountains still have one. Sheriff's Department is giving tours of the new women's jail and recruiting this morning starting at 6:00 AM. The new jail is in the East San Diego city of Santee right next to the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility. This afternoon at 1:30 in San Diego's courthouse there is a sentencing and arraignment worth mentioning. First Jason Arringdale will hear his fate after pleading guilty to confronting a woman and her baby in a rest room. Then Ameen Brynt is being arraigned and is accused of trying to rape a woman in Balboa Park. At 10:00 AM a new City Heights community park will officially open with a ribbon-cutting from Interim Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilwoman Marti Emerald. San Diego's Department of Environmental Health or D-E-H says that a pipeline brake at a reservoir let the sewage loose. The waters from the Border north through Imperial Beach are not safe for swimming. The D-E-H will retest the waters soon but until then signs warning people of the health hazards will remain up. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for San Diego County's mountains and deserts. They warn us that sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour with gust up to 60 will scours the east county. They go on to warn drivers to watch for debris and that people driving high profile vehicles like semi-trucks and RV's should be extra careful. There is an arraignment and sentencing of note today. First at 8:00 AM in El Cajon's courthouse Hector Hoyt's arraignment for a fatal hit and run while driving a San Diego Gas and Electric truck. At the time 55-year-old Hoyt worked for SDG&E. He's accused of hitting 54-year-old Robert Fisher on January 6th then taking off, all while driving an SDG&E Ford 550 truck. Then at 1:30 this afternoon in Chula Vista's courthouse retired firefighter and former Commodore of the Coronado Yacht Club is being sentenced for molesting a neighbor girl. San Diego Association of Governments Board of Directors continues their annual retreat this morning. They are at Lakeside's Barona Resort all day talking about car sharing and rapid transit. The National Weather Service says a pair of storms in the North-Central part of the Pacific Ocean are sending a strong swell that are causing the treacherous conditions. Surf will be from 5 to 7 feet ... that means that the face of the wave could be as high as 14 feet. Today is not a day to learn to surf. Today's warning is in effect form 5:00 AM until noon and there could be other warnings later on this week. San Diegans are celebrating Marten Luther King all over town today. Kaiser Permanente employees honor Dr. King's legacy with a day of community service. At 8:00 AM about 70 of them will be working at the San Diego food bank. Continuing dry, windy, and warm weather is what prompted the extension. Today it’s going to be in the mid 70's to low 80's, humidity is going to be around 5%, and wind gusts are hitting 40 miles per hour. The National Weather Service expects the dangerous conditions to extend through Friday but things are expected to calm down over the weekend. The trial is over and the jury is back with a verdict for the two men accused being part of a kidnapping gang working in the San Diego County. Jorge Rojas Lopez and Juan Estrada Gonzalez face the death penalty if convicted. They are accused of carrying out kidnappings and murders in the United States for Mexican cartels. In 2007 an unassuming suburban house in Chula Vista is wear authorities say the gang held a wealthy businessman for ransom. In separate murder charges they are accused of shooting some of their victims and asphyxiating others by stuffing using socks stuffed down their throats. The verdict will be read at 9 AM in San Diego downtown courthouse. In much lighter court news Gian Ericson de los Reyes is being arraigned this morning at 8:00 AM in El Cajon's courthouse. He's accused of stealing iPods but leaving the boxes filled with erasers. In even lighter news at 1:00 this afternoon Cecilia Abadie is in traffic court fighting a ticket for wearing Google glasses while driving. At 9:00 this morning San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System Board of Directors is taking comments from the community on proposed rapid transit route changes. And finally this afternoon at 12:15 Judge Juan Guzman Tapia, the prosecutor of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, is at California Western School of Law. Extremely low humidity and high winds have parched and a scoured all of southern California. The National Weather Service is warning San Diegans not only about potential fires but they are also saying to "Watch for broken tree limbs and debris on roadways". In court this afternoon there are two arraignments of note on the docket for 1:30 both in San Diego’s downtown courthouse Leon Powell arraignment for allegedly breaking into well know food writer Jeanne Jones’s house and stealing jewelry. Then William Cady who is accused of killing three people in a drunken crash on State Route 52 late last Friday night. San Diego's City Council is busy today. First in the morning at 9:00 the council's Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committee is meeting and on the agenda is the living wage ordinance. Then this afternoon at 2:00 the Smart Growth and Land Use Committee is meeting. They are talking about some parking issues and making it possible to sell or transfer ownership of card rooms. Who knew? The Smart Growth and Land Use Committee has control over some card room issues. This afternoon at 1 is the tapping of the first mayoral debate between Kevin Faulconer and David Alvarez. The debate is being co-hosted by 10news, KPBS, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
