First, Charisse explains the local GEARUP program and the King-Chavez-Parks initiative which helps students all over the state. This week Dean Johnston speaks with guests from social and asks them to describe how they became interested in social work. Dawn Fox talks about the Heartside project and how she thought the project was a good practical experience for her students. The students worked as a class on the Heartside project and worked in the community, mainly focusing on the homeless in the Heartside area. Guest students, Haley and Tasheema discussed how the project was their first encounter with homeless families and described different ways students agreed to help the homeless. Students collaborated a list of things that were needed for the homeless people and recieved donations from local businesses.+ More details
