Bhutanese citizens of Nepalese ethnicity were forcibly driven out of Bhutan in the late 1980s and early 90s by the ruling regime, as a part of one of the worst incidents of ethnic cleansing in the human history. These people were refused a refuge by neighboring India, a country bordering Bhutan and were rather dumped to Nepal, a small country which lies to the North East of India, by the Indian security forces. UN started resettling these bhutanese refugees to third countries including the US, in 2007 after rounds of failed negotiations between the Bhutanese and Nepalese Governments. 98,036 refugees have been resettled as of August, 2015, as per the UN. This video tells the story of one such refugee, Dhanman.

          • Great fortune in Bhutan

            from Tania Khodakivska Added 29 1 1

The Great Fortune in Bhutan (Grande Fortuna in Bhutan) is a 52 minutes documentary about one of the most secluded countries in the world... Storyline is based on the travels of the great master of Dzogchen Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in the Country of Dragon. For this project I experimented telling a documental story combining video with animation. I chose a simple line animation for the best viewing impact. Animation by Valeria Levenko and Sergio Tocin from Ukraine. This film would not be happened without Fabio Andrico and Matteo del'Angelo. And huge thanks to all who collaborate for this project - Andrey Trifonov (sound mix), Alexandra Kocukova (co-edit), Richard Eaglton (DoP), Hanz Hansen (DoP), Curzio Aloisi (music), Louis Franck, Dmitry Shurov and Yuriy Khustochka (the final song), Andriy Toloshny (mastering and color correction), Alexander Koreshkov (graphic design), David Surrichio and Tsering Suriccio (who organazed the tavel in the very best way), Giacomella Orofino, Matteo Maglietti, Andrei Besedin, Pronto film... You are inspiring me a lot!

              • Bhutan: A Wing And A Prayer

                from Jason Added

Jason Edwards: "I’ve been on assignment where rare or endangered species inexplicably cooperate and I manage to capture a frame in very little time however this is far from the norm. The reality tends to be weeks, months or even years of searching, feeding hordes of bloodsucking insects, sleep deprivation and justification to editors as to the value of me sitting alone in the wild. In Bhutan my schedule was so tight I cringed reading the brief that listed two of the most elusive birds in the world. All I could do was work every minute of every day to track down the birds and offer prayers to all and any Gods. The fact that I was able to observe let alone photograph both species was both exciting and humbling."
