After a long summer in Europe without much windsurfing, I returned home to Maui to prepare for the upcoming Aloha Classic World Cup at Hookipa. My training for the contest focused on the fundamentals of waveriding: turns. "Back to Maui Part 1: Training," starts with a messy 360 captured on my first day back in the water, and as the edit progresses you can see my sailing improve as I get back into the Hookipa mindset. We shot this footage on 3 separate days during the 2 weeks before the contest. Part 2 will feature my windsurfing from the Aloha Classic. Music: "Walla Walla" by Glass Animals

This is the final video from Our 32 Mile Adventure Crossing the Channel of Bones and the 2014 Molokai to Oahu stand up paddle race, July 27, 2014. It was 32 miles of exciting, adrenaline SUP racing at it's best. Myself, Suzie Cooney and relay partner Stephen Ross pushed our limits. This crossing changed our lives. Note: To see more photos and get a first hand inside story on how it REALLY was click here to read my excerpt. http://bit.ly/1s2Dzdn Special thanks to coach and M20 champion, Jeremy Riggs for guiding us with his expertise and knowledge. Also a huge support was Mike Holmes, the best boat captain one could ask for. Imagery by Simone Reddingius. Support crew, Tommy and Cathy who were are cheerleaders and kept us well fed. Our training consisted of many many miles on Maui in all conditions and lots of studio training too. Anything can happen and everything can happen. We were well prepared and our goal was to finish without incidents ( sharks, wounds..etc ) and for our crew to have a blast with us. It was incredible. I've been wanting to visit the speed strip at Roa Island for some time -had I known just how beautiful the area is, and how incredible the speed run is, I'd have made the journey a long time ago! I now have a Canon 7d so I thought I'd make use of the video function and do little Info-vids of the places I visit rather than just take pics. I also used the k4harness mount with Gopro Hero2 for the sailing action. Unfortunately the card decided to pop out the slot and loose half the footage, the better half of course :) The speed strip at Roa is amazing, as I hope you can tell from the vid. An easy launch with not much of a walk, pretty much all sand from then on, a well defined channel edge which you can sail within a few feet of most of the time, and a nice large range of usable tide (bank shows below 6m). The sailing club was only recording 23knots of wind, so we didn't do too well on that score, but still managed to latch onto a gust for a 43.7knot max. Serious potential here for top speeds and nautical miles on the right day. Unfortunately, the ocean claimed my GoPro camera on the second day of use. But, I was able to put this video together with what I captured on day one. Testing different camera angles on the board.

Mark Raaphorst built a new camera mount that we connected to the back of a SIC race board. I teamed up with Livio Menelau to take it out for a test run. We paddled from Maliko Gulch to Kahului Harbor riding wind swells on hollow, light weight SIC V1 Bullets with built in active steering systems.
