His sight gets attracted by the sounds that surround him. He will have to explore a blurry world of unknown places and strange characters." “Astigmatismo” is a short-film about the feeling of being lost. This feeling is created thanks to an extreme blur effect, leaving only a very tiny space in focus. The focus shifts and moves rhythmically, synchronized with the sounds and the music, revealing a constantly changing landscape. The optical effect of blur is at the core of the film, so to make this effect as beautiful and authentic as possible "Astigmatismo" is shot in a 5-level multiplane using a special lens. The animation involves cut-out marionettes and paint on glass. Everything is entirely made by hand and there are no post production effects. It is, however, computer-assisted. The camera and the lens were entirely controlled by computer making it possible to adjust the focus and the depth of field with extreme precision, allowing for a variety of focus effects that wouldn't have been possible to create otherwise. In this way, the film combines old school animation techniques with recent advances in camera technology.

Radio Soulwax presents UNDER THE COVERS VOL. 3: Download the RADIO SOULWAX app for iphone / ipad / android or watch online at http://www.radiosoulwax.com The third leg in a trilogy of hours that contain animations we made for our Under The Covers live DJ show, this one is decidedly more danceable. It mainly consists of recent releases and has a few exclusive unreleased tracks in there, with some classics thrown in for good measure. We start out with Saam Farahmand's amazing trailer for RSWX called "Machine" which was a joy to play in front of big audiences if only to see people's reactions on their faces, and continue onwards with what is possibly the most party-friendly show on RSWX yet. This mix contains quite a few Belgian tracks, and only one animation that was made for a specific market, see if you can guess which one it is. Concept: Soulwax and Fergadelic Editor: Kurt Augustyns Executive Producer: Glyn Peppiatt Animation: Michael Zauner, Laurie Hill, Lewis Kyle White, Bill Porter, Nuno Costa, Daniel Brereton, Glyn Peppiatt, Olga Makarchuk, Reza Dolatabladi Includes "Machine" Directed by Saam Farahmand

Everyone has experienced fireworks. It is truly a magical sight. I set out to capture them, not as we know them normally, but in a way that many of you may not have seen them before. For this, I used Bokeh, which originates from the Japanese word "boke", which means "blur" or "haze". Soundtrack by Cliff Martinez

A note about the reel: In this collection of work, I tried to be clear of my involvement in each shot as you can see in the breakdown part (the half end of the reel), but as always it is a group effort :) This piece wouldn't be possible without my mentors, Blur peeps (FX dudes especially), the supervisors, generous people who made tutorials, software makers and coffee.

In this tutorial Harry Frank demonstrates how to take a regular, run-of-the-mill shot and turn it into something beautiful and moody, straight out of a fairytale. You'll learn how to set up a down-and-dirty 3D track, add volumetric light and dust to a live action shot, and then finish it with some simulated camera lens blur.
