Davis Feminist Film Festival: "A visually expressive, surreal narrative set in Boston, about a young woman who awakes early one morning inside of a dumpster. As she (and we) re-live the past 12 hours in flashes of memory, we come to realize that she has been the victim – and possibly a fatality—of sexual assault. An important and ever-timely issue treated with seriousness and care. WARNING: survivors of sexual assault may be uncomfortable watching this film." A short film by Boston University student Sarah Greenwald. Starring Valerie O'Connor and Colin White. Music by Beirut and Jacqueline McCullough. Filmed on a Canon DSLR through Boston University's School of Communication.

"La Barrera" is a short film exercise that I directed for my Boston University FT402 Production II Digital class. "La Barrera" literally translates to "the barrier" which is what I always felt was in between me and my grandmother who died the day before production. Her and I could not get past the language barrier and for that reason, we never were able to develop a strong relationship which is something I have always regretted. I ended up gaining confidence in speaking Spanish through my Chilean mother who always encouraged me no matter how poor my accent was. The role of janitor is a reflection of Hispanic migrant workers receiving low jobs in the United States. Many women and men in my family are socially forced to these positions despite their high intellectual abilities. I wanted to use a student struggling with a Spanish speech because Spanish is integrating itself more and more into modern the United States, but more so, I wanted to make a comment on the ignorance of many that still exist to this day. My grandmother faced this every day of her life, and for that reason, I dedicate this to her. Huge thanks to everyone who was involved in the making of this project. Shot on Canon 5D MKIII.
