1. HDRI with a Tiffen Variable ND Filter

    from Robert Fisher Added 500 0 0

This is a BTS video showing the use of a variable ND filter to create a bracketed set of source images for blending manually or in HDR software. Using a VND filter has a couple benefits. First, it gets around the limitations many cameras have on creating an AEB sequence. Second, because you're working with manual exposure, the shutter speed is constant so the blur characteristics of each shot are consistent which makes for a better blend of moving elements like water or clouds. This technique and many others are covered in my new book The Anti-HDR HDR Photography Book due out in early summer 2016. Video: Nikon D800 Bracketed set: Nikon D700 VND: Tiffen - Thanks to Tiffen for the loan of the filter for this demonstration Screencast Audio: External mic connected to an Android smartphone w/ a voice recording app HDR: Photomatix Pro Audio Edit: Adobe Audition CC Video Edit: Adobe Premiere Pro CC

This is a bit of a counterpoint video to the many blog posts and videos that have been done lately with photographers discussing the reasons they've switched to mirrorless camera systems like Sony or Fuji. For some reason my B camera didn't record anything so that's why in a few places it seems like I'm looking out of the frame. That was supposed to be B cam footage. Ah well.

Workshops for a variety of photography subjects begin soon in Georgetown, at the Center for the Digital Imaging Arts. Some sessions are designed for professionals and some for pros who wish to explore their creative sides and some for camera creatives who wish to become a bit more professional. But all of the sessions are for serious photographers. Most sessions are held once a week in the evening for four weeks, so participants receive 16 hours of intensive immersion in the subject. Our hope is that every attendee emerges from these workshops with a new skill they can put immediately to use.
