Java Post Production is proud to have worked on the well-loved Canadian sitcom Corner Gas for all 106 episodes. For six seasons Java Post did the Online Video Post Production. This included converting each episode from its lower-res "offline" form to its full-res HD "online" form. Using the HD footage, Jack would work with the DP and the Producers to colour-correct an episode, helping to achieve the desired overall feeling for each scene. All visual effects were also done at Java Post. This included things like CG and live-action integration, shot stabilization, as well as countless subtle fixes that were essential to making a well-polished final show for broadcast. Corner Gas was filmed in Super 16mm, so this created many unique challenges to overcome. Once an episode was complete, the final online audio from Talking Dog Studios was added to the sequence and all broadcast deliverables were made. These included captioned Digital-Betacam tapes as well as HDCAM tapes with Dolby-E encoded surround audio. Captioning was provided by Vertical Sync whose owner, Trevor Bennett, was the online editor on all 106 episodes. Corner Gas: created by: Brent Butt produced by: Prairie Pants Productions Inc. executive producers: Virgina Thompson, David Storey, Brent Butt director of photography: Anton Krawczyk csc colourist / visual fx supervisor: Jack Tunnicliffe

This video illustrates some "before-and-after" examples of the visual effects done by Java Post Production for the feature film "Corner Gas: The Movie." The visual effects (also known as "VFX") include such tasks as erasing unwanted items from the camera footage, creating 2D and 3D animated elements to enhance the raw footage, and correcting and enhancing the overall colour of each shot - a process known as colour correction or colour grading. Java Post Production utilizes a cinema-quality THX-calibrated colour correction and colour grading environment. Although it's only illustrated in one shot at the beginning of this video, Java Post Production also shot all the aerial photography for "Corner Gas: The Movie," using our Javacopter - our unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone. In addition to being a full-service film and television post production company, Java Post Production is also a fully certified aerial photography service. Typical half hour comedies excel when episode A, B and C plots meld beautifully together. While A usually gets all the glory (and the star), and B always enjoys a supportive role, it’s the C plot (aka The Runner) which often delivers the funniest moments. Though it might seem to just be bringing up the rear, the runner should never be an afterthought. The best runners are the through lines that drive story points and provide the final comedy button in an episode. Often, a good runner can be strewn across multiple episodes in a single season. Either way, though they might seem deceptively easy to devise, the runner can make or break an episode. Meet with the comedy writers who have worked their runners to perfection, and in doing so, created some of the most memorable comedy moments in recent TV history. Moderator: Brent Butt. Guest Speakers Al Jean, Writer/Exec. Producer, The Simpsons Brent Butt, Creator, Corner Gas Chris McKenna, Co-Exec. Producer, The Mindy Project
