onedotzero_cascade returned in September 2014 as part of the Fak'ugesi Digital Africa Festival and A MAZE, in partnership with the British Council's Connect ZA programme. cascade_za focused on graduates from mixed creative disciplines in Johannesburg, South Africa, aiming to create an environment for collaborative and multidisciplinary work for young people, creating new networks and opportunities within the industry. The diverse group of 20 students and emerging creatives worked with the onedotzero team, the artist and illustrator Richard Hogg and the South African creative technologist Nathan Gates to explore the theme of 'play'. In groups the participants worked together to create interventions into the tetrafix party at the end of the weeklong workshop. The projects were hugely successful, adding an element of play, drama and excitment to the party line up. We saw everything from an interactive ballon sculpture to a glowing UV room and even a piece of live narrative based gameplay. A big thank you to all the participants for their outstanding hard work and tetrafix, Fak'ugesi and the British council for helping it all happen. cascade was supported by several other onedotzero activities organised during the festival including a residency and collaboration between Yuri Suzuki, Bogosi Sekhukuni, Nathan Gates and Neo Mahlasela which will be shown in the Kalashnikovv Gallery and a panel discussion: onedotzero presents 'PLAY' with Sophie Walter, Richard Hogg, Nathan Gates and Yuri Suzuki. Film shot and edited by Gemma Carr with additional footage courtesy of the British Council Creative Economies team .
