excerpts from a live installation in Location One, NYC called "Lucretia" The piece extracts various elements of the opera "The Rape of Lucretia" by Benjamin Britten; the singers and orchestra, the narrative, and the operatic process itself, and deconstructs and examines them devoid of their original context. Lucretia centers around a room made of fishing wire, illuminated by naked light bulbs. Outside the room, several monitors are placed at varying heights. They reference the whirring and clicking of the loom, the sewing machine, cogs and connectors, the telephone switchboard, the spectrum of beeps and tones that provide the soundtrack to modern technology and women’s connection and interaction with them. The women in the space operate in infinite detail; they become agents of change and controllers of information.

        • An Introduction to Glyndebourne

          from Glyndebourne Added 11.9K 5 1

Founded in 1934 by John Christie and his opera singer wife, Audrey Mildmay, Glyndebourne is committed to presenting opera of the highest quality, commissioning new work, developing new talent and reaching new audiences. Crucially, Glyndebourne has remained financially independent since 1934. Although it receives valued Arts Council support for the Tour and some educational work, the Festival receives no public subsidy. Glyndebourne is a registered charity, funded by box office income, its members and supporters. The Glyndebourne Festival presents six productions each year in a 1,200-seat opera house built in 1994. Glyndebourne on Tour, founded in 1968, takes three productions around the UK each autumn. Together, Festival and Tour present about 120 performances a year to an audience of around 150,000. Glyndebourne’s widely respected Education programme, established in 1986, hosts over 230 community and outreach events a year. And Glyndebourne has pioneered using recordings to bring its work to a worldwide audience through broadcasts, cinema screenings, DVDs and internet streaming.
