                This Grad Focus video features David Dodington, a master’s student in Applied Health Sciences. In December 2013, he presented his research at a leading conference held by the American Society for Nutrition in Washington D.C. Dodington’s abstract was titled “Vitamin D status and periodontal outcomes after non–surgical periodontal therapy." His research is conducted alongside supervisor Dr. Wendy Ward, Canada Research Chair in Bone and Muscle Development. As part of his study, Dodington is also collaborating with a periodontist, Dr. Peter Fritz, to examine the extent to which diet, as well as supplement use, can help healing after a non-surgical deep cleaning procedure aimed at treating periodontal disease and preventing tooth loss.

                  Lauren Hamilton is a grad student in Applied Health Studies specializing in Kinesiology, her research investigates attention switching for balance recovery in younger and older adults. This research will benefit older adult populations that are susceptible to falls, especially individuals who possess lower balance confidence. The purpose of her research distinguishes whether auditory cues can help older adults better prepare for and respond to a loss of balance including the task of attention switching between two concurrent tasks.                     Looking to make an impact for individuals as well as communities, Cait Wilson was provided with exciting opportunities to tailor her education to her interests in Community Recreation. Taking classes in grant proposal writing, and recreation planning gave her the opportunity to work as a Recreation Coordinator in Toronto after graduating from Brock with a Bachelor of Recreation and Leisure Studies. Cait has since set her sights on pursuing a Masters of Science in Recreation Studies at Ohio University.
