Trip to Eksingedalen went extremely well. Me and my buddies Paulius and Mindaugas spent few days by the river in the quiet valley. Also met a very skilled fisherman, who gave us some useful tips. Thank You, who ever you are ! :))

Just a simple video. We knew there had to be a fish about this trough and willow. It came out of the tailout and was kind to us. It surprised us by taking the dry fly after feeding on nymphs exclusively. Not a huge brown but any time a fish fights you into the willows is always exciting. :) The reason for this share is to note the rod angle while the brown tries to rub me out on the willow. An upside down tip often gets us out of trouble and it saved us here again. :)

In 1974, Montana did something that stunned anglers across the state and the nation: it stopped stocking trout in streams and rivers that supported wild trout populations. After decades of use and millions of dollars invested, hatchery production was not helping, and in fact was the leading cause of the collapse of the fishery. Ground-breaking research on the Madison River in the late 1960s and early '70s organized by fisheries biologist Richard Vincent led to that decision. His study results showed that as hatchery production increased, trout abundance decreased, and native stocks were displaced. Nearly forty years after Richard Vincent's study, Montana is one of America's premier trout fishing destinations. Focusing on habitat and discontinuing river hatchery stocking, trout fisheries have recovered and wild populations are self-sustaining. On the anniversary of this monumental decision, Wild Fish Conservancy presents The Montana Story: Forty Years of Success. This is the first volume in a series of short videos called the Wild Fish Video Journal. This educational collection is an extension of our printed Wild Fish Journal.

Low water cycling requires a little patience to allow the fish to do what it's going to do. In this case it didn't like Amelia's dry the first go 'round, but after waiting it out, allowing it to cycle and root amongst the downed willows near the bridge then continuing its cycle cross stream, she gets another go. And the end of it all is about right.

This pattern was created by Greg Senyo of Steelhead Alley Outfitters with the use of his trademarked dubbing that is widely used all throughout the industry. The original pattern was tied on a tube fly and I also traded a set of eyes for a Fish Mask by Fly Men Fishing Company. This pattern has been a good Alewife imitation on particular bodies of water. Once wet, this material really lights up on the water. I hope you enjoy.
