This is the story of a desperately-needed water storage project that has been promised to Sanpete County in central Utah for nearly 80 years. The Narrows Project, the anticipated dam and reservoir, is designed to capture the melting snow that runs off the mountains immediately east of Sanpete each spring, providing a majority of the county's water supply for both agriculture and municipal use. The project solves a major problem: melting snow runs off the mountains in the spring, mostly flowing past the places it's needed, because there is no means of storing that immensely valuable water. It simply runs past the county and is lost, leaving Sanpete terribly dry during the later part of the summer and fall. Sanpete County has clear legal ownership of the water. But why has this storage project been promised to Sanpete since the 1930's, but not yet built? Greatest Asset tells the story of the Narrows Project and the efforts of neighboring Carbon County and others to stifle the badly-needed dam and reservoir.+ More details
